What are the Sharks looking for anyway? Are you doing a player for player swap to shake up the room or looking for picks and prospects to replenish a pretty sad pool? Little of both?

Doesn't matter what anyone chooses to classify him as. He has the ability to play both C/LW, which means he's available to play whichever his team wants him to. He has played both at a high level for the Sharks. If the Sharks didn't have 129348109248 centers he'd probably be playing Center.

Sharks keep him unless wowed by an offer. His speed is a part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Which analysts have called out the Sharks system? I know they've been calling it out on the PK, but not at ES.
They've hadn't had a drastically different ES systems in the Todd McLellan era either. It's always been puck possession, board-work hockey. Saying Marleau was effected by it this year isn't completely true considering he put up great numbers in the prior 3 years.

I was more arguing that Marleau isn't an elite center since he gets the majority of his points on the wing not that he couldn't play center.

And my point was that he's done both. Wherever he has played, he has scored. Just because he doesn't play center with this incarnation of the Sharks doesn't mean he's not still a top notch center. Not putting Marleau on Crosby's level by any means, but if Crosby played wing for a year would he not still be an elite center?

Here's what I think about the Avalanche's chances of getting Patrick Marleau: I think the Avs would be interested in seeing what the Sharks would want for him. I think they'd like to add a little bit of veteran depth up front, especially if David Jones leaves via free agency. I also don't think the Avs would give up a whole lot for him, given his age.

I think for the Sharks' sake, the guy you need to move isn't Marleau, it's Wilson.

Find a way to make our slow team faster by trading our fastest skater (and one of the fastest players in the world). Pretty darn difficult to do.

Not because I hate the player but.. 6.9M is worse than Stastny's salary. One "slightly" over paid guy is enough.

Like I said I don't dislike him I just dislike his cap hit for what he brings and I don't like that he has had the captaincy taken from him. Which makes me skeptical as to how much leadership he would actually bring to the team.

If the Sharks are smart they keep Marleau.

adding more depth scoring and fixing the PK should be on the top of the list not trading the teams best scorer.

This is not NHL12

Marleau is only moved if the deal blows wilson off his feet.

I would take the Sharp+Frolik deal proposed earlier in the thread in a heartbeat

HUGELY sheltered minutes? Are we talking about the same Henrik Sedin that averages over 22 minutes a night? Must be all sheltered minutes against the other teams 3rd D pairing right?

EV minutes are mostly against 3rd pairing D. Obviously not all, but most. And Sedin has the ridiculous offensive zone numbers. Marleau is a shut-down player, like Kesler.

Yeah he is overpaid, but he only has 2 more years on his contract. The avs could use a 30 goal scorer and Marleau might be the best option out there.

How many UFA 30 goal scorers do you think are available for a less cap hit? Goal scorers of his caliber are worth 7.5 mil on the open market.
