I think it could go as high as low 2nd/high 3rd IF NJ/Nash know that they won't resign. I think that the teams will be trying to July 1st though so don't think it will happen. Could maybe get a 4th at the draft, not much time left at that point so lower pick.
I'd be a little surprised if Lou traded Parise's negotiating rights. Some expected it to happen with Kovalchuk in 2010 which didn't come to fruition. He could have tried to squeeze an extra pick for Rafalski, Gomez, Gionta, or Martin before they hit free agency. Obviously I would have preferred getting back something for those guys, but that doesn't seem to be how Lou operates.
Nashville on the other hand is usually proactive with getting something for UFAs they can't keep. It'll depend on whether they feel like Suter has no interest in staying. Nashville has a ton of cap space and showed they'd be willing to make a market level offer when they extended Rinne.
Both guys seem likely to test free agency, so I'm not sure their rights are worth much.
Yep, they're in the driver's seat. However, unless you think a player will go UFA for sure, why would you pay anything at all right? And the above examples show it can happen.
But I think it won't.
In LA's case, if Simon Gagne retires, LA will be able to throw a ton of money at Parise.
And they can already thrown nearly 9 mil at him already...
When Hartnell and Timmonen were UFA's, Nashville let Philly work out a contract in return for their 1st round pick returned (from the Forseberg deal)
I am curious to see if they would do something similar with Suter (not just flip the rights, but grant exclusive negotiation to someone for a late 1st or late 2nd rounder)
Jay Bouwmeester's rights were traded to Calgary for the rights to Leopold and a 3rd rounder. This is essentially the equivalent of a 2nd round pick. Very comparable to the current situations as JBo was the most hyped UFA of the time.
Lou has stated before he doesn't believe in trading rights, not gonna happen with parise
That doesn't make any sense. This should be a case by case thing.
You've got to assume that negotiations/talks between Lou and Parise's agent will start shortly after the NJ season is over. They should have a pretty good feel for things by draft day. If it doesn't look like NJ will be able to sign Parise, then why not move his rights and get something in return?
Given the lack of depth in this years draft, and the fact that Parise is pretty much the only prize forward on the UFA market, i'm almost certain the Devils could get a late 1st or at the very least a 2nd for his rights.
I read and heard a crazy rumor saying Parise and Suter want to sign with the same team. Its a scary thought because the team they mentioned was Detriot having the cap space to sign both. If your team has the cap space what do you offer for these players to come to your team?

If this is the case (assuming they allow for a discount) - I think teams make room.
I mean for example if they go for a combined 10 or 11 mm between the two of them. I think teams would gladly jettison some higher priced contracts.
I think ESPN insider might be floating this...and I've heard the Detroit media is as well.
If I'm a Detroit fan I pray this happens. That team is getting old and fast, and they aren't replenishing any of their talent with youth. At least not with elite youth.
It's getting harder and harder to imagine Parise leaving NJ. Especially if they win the cup.
Not really. If they win why would Brodeur come back he would probably retire. And once again for the millionith time NJ is in financial trouble and may not have the money to resign him.

You also have to keep in mind that Kovalchuk is getting a 5 million dollar raise this summer too.
His actual salary the last 2 years has been 6M and now it's jumping to 11M.
