Kennedy and Niskanen for Franson and Connolly?

I kid, but yea, bunch of leaf fans seem to think Franson is some great prospect, I see a 2nd pairing at best, more likely to be a hard hitting bottom pairing... And then when they say that Connolly can fill in for Staal on the 3rd line center, they clearly are not thinking because one of the main reasons for trading Staal is that he is too expensive for 3rd line center, Connolly is 4.75m

Mainly, I am here to lurk and this thread (and the first one) just provided me with hours of free entertaiment, but I just have to say this much: the juimping around between "Staal is such an underrated player, who could be first line on many teams, how can you expect him to extend for less than 6 million and not bust your salary cap" and "Staal is such an overrated third liner, here have Stalberg and some picks" just as it fits the need is hilarious.

NO. Staal has very little value to us...and what does Stoll matter? FYI we have four lines and like 9 centers literally. We don't need another. And talk about assets we won't give up...

What about something based around sharp for staal to come to chicago? i'm not usually for trading the hawks core, but i can see this working out for both teams.

Pittsburgh says no to that package for Staal alone I believe.

Again, go look at past trades. B Richads (with term), and compare that to Burns (1 yr left before UFA). Staal will net a decent return. It won't be a M Richards/Carter return, but similar.

Agreed and can people please stop saying that he won't get much as he is a coming UFA...

If he gets traded, the team is highly likely willing to spend to keep him, therefore highly unlikely he goes to UFA. If he gets traded this summer but then goes to UFA the following summer, it would be 3 teams in about a calendar year meaning he also has to move twice in a calendar year. If he gets traded I don't think even he will want to go to UFA unless he absolutely hates the team he got traded to (kind of like Carter but I don't think Staal would complain, I think he would just be happy that he would be finally getting the opportunity to play top minutes). If he gets traded, a GM would want to sign a contract with him right away. If it doesn't happen right away, the GM would have another full year to convince you to sign/do other trades to better the team to make you want to sign.

what do people think of:

Lupul
35th overall

for

Staal

gives Pens top 6 of:

Lupul Malkin Neal
Kunitz Crosby Dupuis

gives Leafs a top 6 of:

Forsberg Grabovski Kessel
Kulemin Staal MacArthur

gives leafs a defensive shutdown 2nd line and allows us to take Forsberg 5th overall.

LOL, you mad.

Thats too much, there is no proof he is a #1 center yet plus its only one year for Staal. He could very well say screw it and leave after 1 year.

A1, Kule and Luke are at their all time lowest trade value and Bozak is worth way more to the Leafs than any other team, i dont think he would be even playing on any of the Pens lines. I think Jeffrey could do better than Bozak

Im still not giving up a 30 goal scorer who is magic with Malkin, the 22 year old top 5 pick, and a 50 point center for 1 year of Staal.

No thanks.

thats fair, but he can sure help the Leafs, his two way play, pk abilities and his chance to grow in Toronto would be huge, but 1 year of Staal would be devastating blow to Toronto

Kulemin didn't get 30 goals this year, not even close. Malkin isn't on the leafs so that shouldn't give him more value, I'm confused by you saying that, isn't a valid argument. Schenn was a top 5 pick, has he lived up to it since? Nope, is he still valuable, yes. Bozak hasn't ever reached 50 points despite playing with Lupul and Kessel all year, both PPG players this season. Look up for my reasons as to why it wouldn't be 1 year of Staal in my opinion.

I maintain that I'd love to see Jordan Staal in a Wings uniform next year.

And people say Staal is overrated. Kulemin scored 30 goals once in his career, during a year he had a really high shooting percentage. His other years have seen him score 15, 16 and 7 goals, respectively.

I have no doubt Kulemin is better than his 7 goal season this year, but I don't think you can accurately describe him as a "30 goal scorer" when he's done it once in his career, and that year wasn't this past season.

It's a bad package, and I'd be willing to bet any money that if Burke was actually offered that deal by a drunk Shero, Burke would take it and change his phone number immediately so Shero had no way to call and say he changed his mind.

It's going to be difficult to convince people that Kulemin is a 30 goal scorer. Sure, he had 30 once, but the other 3 seasons he scored 15, 16, & 7. Looking at those numbers and seeing that his average for the four seasons is 17 goals per season, it looks more like 30 was a fluke at this point in time.

When people value Kulemin highly because of his one 30 goal season, I always think of Cheechoo. 56 goals to 37 to 23 to 12 to 5 to now in the AHL.
