Luongo has asked for trade. UPD: Leafs, Hawks, Panthers and Lightning on his list

According to James Duthie:

Quote:
james duthie ‏ @tsnjamesduthie
Sources say Roberto Luongo will submit a short list of teams he'd waive his no-trade to go to next week. Toronto will be on it.
MOD EDIT:

Per Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet:

Quote:
Nick Kypreos ‏ @RealKyper Reply Retweet Favorite Open
#SNPlayoffs #Canucks Luongo asks for trade. Van didn't even need to ask him to waive NTC. He tells them himself in exit meeting he wants out

Canucks will have to take back a contract to trade Luongo. Still elite, but window is closing. Maybe has 4 good years left and lots of term.

5th overall, find a way to get 3rd overall, Grigorenko.

Profit.

wow that was quick. Looks like Gillis wants to get the ball rolling ASAP. Toronto on the list...Burke may not like those long contracts but Nonis loves him and the Allaire connection. And Burke will have the most pressure of any GM's to make the playoffs next year...he could get desperate...like the 5th pick???

Also, I wonder how many teams are going to be on this short list? 3 teams?

Why in the hell would Toronto be on the list? I swear, sometimes I think this eastern media bias goes a little bit too far sometimes.

Somebody is talking out of school, that's for sure.

After the way Canucks management threw Hodgson under the bus, I can certainly see why players would try and get in front of stories that involve them.

For a class organization, we sure seem to rift with a lot of players.

Allaire is in Toronto and they're a team that needs goaltending and defense. This wouldn't be a bad move at all for the Leafs, in my opinion.

If Burke trades the #5 pick for Luongo, he's an idiot. Pure and simple.

This is going so fast.. I thought teams can't talk to each other till the season is over? Woah, this is insane. It's actually happening..

Betting Toronto, Montreal, Tampa, Florida will be on it. Don't know who else. Detroit?

I'll be pissed off if we take any sort of cap dump.

I don't see why people think Luongo would avoid Toronto, he's always been a guy who welcomes a challenge. I don't think he's going to duck a market just because it's another fishbowl.

The contract scares me and no way we move the 5th for him as well.

I'd still welcome him in Toronto if we acquire him but not if we give up a lot. He's still a good goaltender but that term is ridiculous and I know most of you admit that as well.

They aren't contending for the Cup any time soon. Heck, Tampa would be a way better fit. Fix up that D a bit and with Luo on net they're hot to go for another deep run.

Considering schneiders salary is going dramatically up and luongos cap hit isn't even that high... we'll be adding alot of salary if we take on a cap heavy player, without shedding much at all really

This doesn't necessarily mean Luongo is gone...

If I were Gillis I would do the same thing. Get a list of teams that Luongo can be traded to, and assess whether the return for Schneider or Luongo is higher. Pretty standard move to me, just surprised that this is being made public.

Allaire will strip away athleticism in favour of blocking. Lu may be more successful that way, or it may ruin his game. I honestly believe his slow starts are a result of the time he spends each summer with Allaire. It messes up what he's done under Melanson.

Allaire is no longer relevant in the NHL. Every good to great goalie in the league plays a more athletic, reactive style now. The butterfly is a standard save selection so the old-school quebec-style blocking mentality just makes a goalie too predictable, rigid and unadaptable.

The irony is that although Roy is associated with Allaire for most people, Patrick never once played that pure blocking style that we see from Giguere, a true Allaire disciple. If anything Patrick developed his style and Francois distilled it into this horribly simplified parody.

I suppose it would be good for Luongo haters because we could watch Allaire undo all the improvements to Lu's game that Melanson has implemented over the last two years. If Lu is traded, he might fall apart due to the annual work he does with Allaire in the summer.

I still keep an eye on the Leafs and I knew Allaire was truly done when they showed a clip of him drilling his goalies to do a butterfly block on a one-timer from the slot...the night after Reimer had been burned by a top corner shot from a behind the net feed. No amount of blocking is going to help you on a shot like that, but there they were, doing it over and over again...

Don't make a move until the playoffs are done IMO, wait for all potential suitors to make a bid and get the best value.

Exactly what I was thinking. Pathetic really. I'm sure they pressed his agent and he said "Yes, Toronto will be on that list".

Question for all you guys who said you'd cheer for Lu... Would you still want him to win a Cup with the Leafs?
