If I were Gillis I would do the same thing. Get a list of teams that Luongo can be traded to, and assess whether the return for Schneider or Luongo is higher. Pretty standard move to me, just surprised that this is being made public.
Schneider has to be signed yet. Probably why the lou stuff is moving so quickly, before we sign cory to a much larger contract we need to make sure lou can be moved if were sticking with cory.

Bingo. If Schneider **** the bed against the Kings, this wouldn't even be an issue (re: moving Luongo). How the **** is this a fan driven thing?

And what about Carey Price a couple of years ago?

No, it's just this city.

Luongo understands the 'business'.

He said he'd do what's best for the team and waive his NTC if asked.

That one comment gives Gillis so many more options and luongo realizes that.

Doesn't TO have the goalie coach that Luongo wanted us to get for him?

Patrick Roy... it happens all the time. In every sport. Rangers fans were booing Roszival anytime he touched the puck

I don't see the big deal. Luongo and Schneider are both really good goalies. As an organization once Schneider showed he could be a number one guy it was in our best interest to keep the guy who is 6 or 7 years younger.

I agree that the fans were way too hard on Luongo but this strikes me as a very good buisiness decision by Gillis for the long term benefit of the team. I liked Luongo and hope he does well but this makes a lot of sense for Vancouver.

Thomas gets lots of hate from B's fans occasionally. I don't doubt this city is the only place for such harsh criticism. It's too bad that simply the best goaltender in franchise history leaves in such a fashion. You can tell I'm pissed about it too if that wasn't already clear.

Not exactly. However our fans make the GM's job much harder than it needs to be. Yes, Schneider may be a better goaltender for us short term vs long term, however unconditionally cheering through the playoffs would give our team less to worry about. How does tearing down the player who is in the most important position help our team?

I do agree Schnieder has been better than Luongo. And in the end, dealing Luongo is probably best for us. Again, in Raymonds case this time, how does it help him by un-needlessly tearing him down? Yes, Raymond is bad. But he's not "Let's replace him with Ebbet" bad.

Our media restricts certain deals and it's undeniable. Trading Hodgson has caused some people to hate Gillis even with them knowing Hodgson wanting out.

Not at all. The decision was made to make Schneider the number one goalie. Luongo recognizes that and is behaving as a professional.

No, Cory Schneider just ran the best goaltender this franchise has ever had out of town.

Uh.. can you honestly blame them? I like Luongo, but he hasn't exactly done anything to help his cause or win any of the "haters" over.

There is zero evidence that Gillis asked Lou to waive his NTC. It was Lou who said he would waive it for the team. The anti Gillis hysteria is stupid.

And it would be nice if a bidding war broke out for Lou's services.

Actually no, it isn't. At all. He was asked if he'd waive his NTC, he said yes, now media is speculating. That's not a rift, that's business.

Still waiting for your list of all the other players Gillis has had rifts with.... Real rifts, not your definition of rifts.

Just because there is a parting of ways doesn't mean there is a "rift".

Oh, good, he's publicly asking for a trade.

That's a *much* better situation...

Another thing that doesn't help is his politics which is still a fair bit to the right of the average person in Mass.

We just went through this nonsense with Hodgson and "only chicken littles think there is a rift" - are we really going to go through the same denial process again?

Either Gillis has asked him to waive, or Luongo is - very publicly - asking to be traded less than 48 hours after the season ended. Neither of those are positive developments.
