And by the way he skates it looks like he's injured both knees, ankles, hamstrings, groin, feet, glutes

Skating with the team (versus by himself after the boys leave the ice) is a nice step for Mez. Assuming no setbacks, perhaps he could return as early as Game 5-6 of this series. I would probably still aim to have him back for the third round, but if we are facing elimination... perhaps he plays a tad earlier.

Would be great to get him back ASAP, he's good all-arounder. Can be paired with anybody.

Getting him and Grossmann back are the key to us having an actual shot at the cup. That and Boston/NY getting eliminated before we have to play them.

Hopefully he steps his game up for playoffs. He is easily better than Lilja and Kubina but really struggled this season.

Tim P. said 3 weeks as of this weekend, aka Round 3. But with him skating today, I have to think he'd come back late in Round 2 if he's needed.

I agree with you here. It is good we have the time off to get some well needed rest. If you remember there were certain people saying we should have tanked some games near the end of the season so we did not have to face the pens. Now that did not turn out to bad did it? Got the NFL draft starting Thursday and back playing Hockey this weekend. Bring whoever on!!

I don't care who the Flyers play. But I gotta be honest, I wouldn't mind it being someone other than Boston or New York.

Without Grossman or mez back I don't have the best feeling for this series. Unless we can play that team defense game every night but that was a rare game lately.

According to Timmy P(on DNL today)! Grossman should be ready by game 1 and Mez by game 3 or 4!

Wow that is some great news if true. Didn't see Mesz coming back until a bit longer.

You got your wish. With Boston out, we can play anyone BUT the Rangers.

I'll take that Meszaros news with a big grain of salt. It can't just be a case of having a warm body in the line-up; Meszaros needs to be able to contribute.

From what I read yesterday, Mez pretty much participated in a full practice (no contact) to the surprise of most reporters.

All signs pointed to Grossmann being ready for the start of round 2 as well.

Mez said some days he still wakes up with back pain, and that after skating his back gets very tight. He said he is going to make sure he is 100%

"It was a serious injury. Sometimes I have a good day, sometimes I have a bad day. It depends. I don't want to go out there not 100 percent. Sometimes it's sore when I wake up, sometimes it's not. After skates, it's a little tight. It depends on what I do. Once the doctor clears me, that's when I'll be good to go. When I'm pain free, that's when I'll be back."

True. He may be right this time, but I won't believe it until Mez is out there, or others are saying the same thing.

Speaking from experience, backs are tricky. Even if he is feeling fine and comes back, it could easily flare up again and knock him back out.

True...my bf has had two cases of lower back disc herniations - his second bout, included 2 discs and sciatic nerve issues. He had a procedure done to his back on the second occasion.

He is one of the most athletic people I know but getting back into things for him was about 2 months. I am assuming Mez and all pro athletes have much better medical tactics - I would bet he is around 60ish% right now and would prob play at 80% - I could foresee that being early into May. But that's just a guess from being around someone who was in constant pain due to a similar injury.

Panotch does a lot of guessing in his "news" - look at what Bill Meltzer and Dave Isaac (who goes to every practice) say while they are there. I typically take nothing from Sam Cardachi and Timmy P as news/truth in terms of practice reports. They have both said things in the past that have been the exact opposite of what happens (re: injuries, players on the ice, etc)

While it may seem great that Mez is back and skating but this isnt a knee, groin, foot issue where once they are able to skate, they are going to be ready to play soon (like JvR). With a back injury, he may be good to skate for an hour every day with a no contact jersey but until he feels comfortable having 200+ pound athletes running into him at full speed, he wont be ready to play. I'll start getting excited when he puts on a real jersey and starts taking some light hits in practice, until then, he's just working on getting his legs back which are the least of his concerns.

Mez has been skating a lot the past week or so, so I'm not surprised he's taking a little break. That being said since he has been on the ice a decent amount, I could see him making a game 4 or so return.
