Coaches are responsible to monitor and evaluate all of their risks, and use proper alternatives and mitigations to minimize them.

Whether DH is stupid or lucky or whatever.... still need more data IMHO.

Hell of a series played by both teams.

The Caps played with more grit and selflessness than at any point under Bruce. I'm no fan of Wideman and Schultz over Orlov, but it worked...so, I dk...

I don't see you acknowledging that part.
wondering, do you think the caps win this series with wideman out for the entire lenth, green injured in game two and carlson injured in game 4?

In just one series he did the following:

He coached the Bruins not to shove a defenseman into the goalie and not get called it.
He coached Semin not to get his wrist hacked from a cheap defenseman.
He coached the defensemen to not get broken feet.
He coached all 3 of the RD to not get hurt at the same time.
He coached Bergeron to miss the open net in OT.
He coached the refs not to call Knuble for GI.

I'm not saying Dale didn't have a hand in it, but there are lots of variables that go into a playoff series and extended playoff run. Lots of things have broken right so far for the Caps. Let's hope it continues.

Funny reading other teams' boards.

After watching how the Caps fared against Boston, seems like everyone wants their favorite teams playing #HunterHockey now. LOL

I don't think it's fair to assume they don't win if they have some injuries. They did fine with Backstrom getting suspended after all. Plus we made it through with two cadavers wearing 55 and 6.

Who knows what Halpern, Perreault, Orlov and Erskine could have done.

according to a swedish paper, tim thomas asked nicklas backstrom for forgiveness for his actions during game two.

translation:

What was it that Tim Thomas and Backstrom was talking about for so long during the hand shake?
- He asked for forgiveness for all the sticks in my face during the second game. So he was aware of it, but not the NHL... hehe, the Valbo's finest giggles and continues...
- I really appreciated it, very honest of him. He's got class.

Empty apologies. If he were really sorry for those actions, he wouldn't continue to do them. Game 2 wasn't the last time he attacked a Caps skater with the blocker.

yea...can you imagine what would happen if the Caps had to start a 3rd string, rookie goalie for the entire series or if the only real center they have was suspended for a critical game....no way they would beat the Bruins

DVRing.

What's amazing was that before the SWG, the wideman sarge pairing were just horrible. All game really, but one last hurrah. Pinned in our zone for 50 seconds, they both stepped off just in time to miss getting a +.

Talk about a trap. Chasing yet another desperation clear around the boards, Mottau their RD moved up aggressively in the RW corner. He smelled blood, he failed. They never recovered.

I would assume Kuznetsov is following the Caps this postseason.

Even if he just checks the score I can't see how it doesn't help
in his NHL recruitment that his NHL team just beat the defending champs.

Kuznetsov is a very opportunistic scorer and would be an amazing addition
as long as he is willing to buy into Hunter Hockey.

Speaking of Hunter Hockey I would argue that there is no reason it can't evolve
into a more dangerous brand of offensive hockey as the team grows under his coaching.

Adding a player of Kuznetsov's caliber could alter the whole team dynamic dramatically enough to make the Caps much more dangerous in the playoffs down the road.

Ward comments on what Dale said before overtime - Ward laughing says "about 3 words"

Dale smiling only says "doesn't get any better than this"

I'll take backstrom's view, thanks. By the way, Thomas' going over trying to cheer the little kid up after a gut punch loss like that was as classy as it gets. Right up there with Laich changing the woman's tire....................

Bruins Thread on the Ward goal and how it shouldn`t have counted

I have to admit , I`m blown away at how 95% of the B`s fans are calling it.....very classy....dunno if we would`ve been that gracious.
They are right but the Caps were due to have a goalie interference call/noncall go their way.....................

Personally I thought the contact was minimal at best.

But Kerry Fraser thinks the goal should've been waived off.

Would you accept Marchand's apologies for diving?

Congratulations

I wanted to stop in over here for a moment to offer my congratulations on your victory over my beloved Bruins. That was an extremely competitive and entertaining series. I believe my Bruins gave their best but just wasnt meant to be. Quite disappointing on this end. Your goalie Holtby has real potential to be something special. Unbelieveable goaltending at times.Good luck to you guys the rest of the way and congratulations on a hard fought win.

Re-watched the game today, minus the stress. Schultz wasn't good. At least two bad gaffes which he was highly fortunate did not turn into Bruins goals, including one right before GWG.

On the other hand, Ovie's performance looked a little better to me than the first time around. He had a few decent chances, and a nice pass, and wasn't as invisible or ineffective as i had thought. We tend to be biased by the score sheet. (If a shot goes in, even if it was lucky bounce, then that guy becomes one of the main story lines in the postgame discussion.)

Would really like to see Orlov, Halpern, and/or Perreault (if healthy) get chances in next series, and preferably earlier in the series, when the pressure isn't as intense.
