Dreger: Seguin Likely to Play for Canada

Darren Dreger ‏ @DarrenDreger Close
Team Canada needs 1F and 1D to complete roster. Seguin and Vlasic likely. Assuming both are healthy and willing.

Good for him it might help him make Canada in 2014.

I wanted him to play for team canada, but a new set of players were named, and he wasn't there. Kind of weird.

As far as 2014 is concerned, he has a very slim chance of making it unless he changes to LW, because team Canada is stacked at C and RW.

Great news for the WC team. Very talented player and the roster is looking better and better. Anything could happen in the next year and he may be able to sneak in if he steps it up even further and someone underperforms on the Olympic team. Thanks for the news boys.

I rather have him just focus on getting stronger. If i was him i would give Stamkos a call he know's how to train in the offseason.

He'll have plenty of time once its done. He trained with Stamkos and a bunch of other guys at BioSteel camp last year and i'm guessing hes probably doing it again this Summer.

This.

Happy for him to get the recognition, but he has to fill out.

He had less time to do what you'd considering filling out last season and got up to 194. He'll be fine. At his age filling out is only a matter of time with that kind of work ethic

Lol. I'm sure those who think he shouldn't go would turn down an opportunity to represent their country...and for what it's worth, these championships finish before the conference finals even finish. Not worried about Seguin missing training time one bit...especially with his work ethic.

The kid missed his opportunity to rep at juniors back to back years. I say go get em

Awesome stuff. I Hope krejci and chara come over too, Even though Germany has to play the czechs and is in a battle with slovakia for direct qualification for 2014. The WC is one of the only opportunities for me to See decent quality Hockey without staying up all night so I want to see As many NHLers As possible, especially bruins. It's a shame that seidenberg wont Play, but certainly understandable.

It's mostly about health for these guys. Hopefully Seguin and anyone else who's chosen are up to it.

He`ll be fun to watch on that big ice surface, good for the kid, would rather the opportunity not be available with a deep playoff run, but nice to see him get recognized

This year's WC's will be played in Finland and Sweden. Since Canada and Slovakia play in Finland, I would love to see Segs and Z make it - but only as long as they are both healthy. Might even go see them face each other.

Won't go to see any of Team Finland games, though, because tickets are waaaaaay too expensive. Cheapest tickets to Finland's games are around 160 euros which is about 210 dollars. Who in their right mind would pay that much to see Finland play say Belarus or Kazakhstan... That is what you have to pay if you want to see Canada and USA face each other too. But for Can-Svk the price is only about half of that.

I would prefer Z do nothing but rest and I`d be shocked if we didn`t learn of an injury that will force him not to take part

You Know what, corvo might actually Be good enough for that team. No offense, but the Teams the US has sent in recent years have been pathetic. Most players don't want to go and unlike Canada, they don't have the depth to make up for it.

I get that this tournament has no Value for Many North Americans, but Team USA shouldnt fight relegation amongst countries like Austria or italy.

I don't think it's that there's no value, it's just that NHL players are coming off an 82-game season (plus training camp, plus playoffs for many) and a lot of them just physically aren't up to it.

He missed out on the World Juniors, which probably hurt his development a little.

Game 6 and 7 were his best two games in a long time. He's obviously got some momentum going. Might as well bring it to hockey's NIT and see if he can get a Gold medal out of it.

Atta boy Tyler.

I seem to recall, Chiarelli is part of the Team Canada management for this, is that right?

Yes,I don't think Chara was 100% healthy. I hope he does nothing but rest for at least a month.
