You think we would have made the playoffs without Giroux? That's ridiculous.
Obviously not the 5th seed, but you also have to remember the way Bryzgalov played, which was pretty bad for the majority of the season. It's a big what if, but yes, I believe that if we didn't have Giroux and still had the same type of play from our other players this year as well as a decent Bryz, the Flyers would make the playoffs. That's my opinion.
PHI with Giroux: 5th seed. PHI w/o Giroux: Likely still in playoffs
PIT with Malkin: 4th seed. PIT w/o Malkin: Likely still in playoffs
TBL with Stamkos: No playoffs. TBL w/o Stamkos: Likely battling for Nail
NY with Lundqvist: 1st seed. NY w/o Lundqvist: Most likely don't make the playoffs
LA with Quick: 8th seed. LA without Quick: Most likely last place.
Quick or Hank should win imo. I'm fine with Giroux missing it. I'm not fine with Malkin winning.

Rangers without Lundqvist don't make the playoffs? Completely disagree. They wouldn't have won the Eastern Conference, but they'd be a playoff team.

I'm guessing that's assuming Crosby is healthy?
Cause if you mean you think PIT would make the playoffs without both Crosby (most of the year) and Malkin, well, I don't know.
I think that's the difference. If Crosby had played more games I don't think Malkin's season would have had such an importance as it did. But since Crosby was out everyone was looking at Malkin and he delivered without much support i'd imagine. Giroux on the other hand had a great team surrounding him.
Wow!! Sorry but I'm more shocked that Lundqvist got it over Quick!
Come to think of it, I'd probably agree. I'm not sure Quick was the better goalie overall, but I think he was definitely more crucial to the Kings' success that Lundquist was to the Rangers'.
Stamkos had no business getting the nod over Quick or Giroux.
Stamkos is so valuable to his team that they didn't make the playoffs.
Cool he scored 60 goals, that's why we have the Rocket Richard to give him recognition for his statistics. He was be no means an MVP candidate this season.

Really? You must not think very highly of the rest of this team if you think that losing one player would take them from 5th place to out of the playoffs. Obviously, they wouldn't be as good without Giroux, but that's a few million in cap space that would have been used for someone else. Sure, that person wouldn't have replaced the 97 points or whatever Giroux had, but its not like the Flyers would have been playing shorthanded the whole year because he wasn't there. No offense to Giroux, but there are very few players out there, if any, who would make a team a Cup contender with them on it and out of the playoffs with them off it.
EDIT: In other words, with Giroux they are a 103 point team, 14 points better than the Sabres. Without Giroux they are an 88 point team, not as good as the Sabres.
I seem to recall the Flyers kept winning when Giroux was concussed, instead of collapsing into a slobbering heap. I don't think it was many games, though.

If Homer isn't a nominee for GM of the Year, Read isnt a nominee for Calder and Giroux isn't a nominee for Hart, who should be credited for Flyers' success?

The player who should be most upset is Quick. As a richards fan i watched more LA games than I care to admit and Quick was the only reason they made the 8th seed. He is a special Goaltender for sure and Capable of putting any team on his back for large stretches at a time. Few goalies can say that.

I'm not so sure. Marty had some good games this year and the team plays fantastic in front of their goalie...but Lundqvist is the best goalie in the world. Being without him an entire season would change the Rangers mentally. They know that even if they DO have a defensive lapse...he's back there. That's why I said MOST LIKELY. I'm open to surprises.

No, teams as is. Crosby plays his 25 games or whatever it was. The Pens played without them for much of last season and did quite well actually. Their team steps up in the absence of superstars, and we saw how good Staal can be in the spotlight if need be. They still had Neal, Letang (their most important player imo) for most of the season, and Fleury who didn't suck until playoffs.
It SHOULD have been imo:
Quick > Lundqvist > Malkin > Giroux > Stamkos
But I think the voters are too fascinated with the actual numbers put up by a player rather than who is the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER to their team.
Shocked the above are Flyer fans. Giroux is the MVP. Period. Best player in the league this year. SO much more valuable than the players who play purely offense. PK, PP, 5 on 5, shutdown, playmaker. HE does it all. MVP. Malkin is pure offense. Stamkos couldn't get his team into the playoffs, so how valuable can you be when you take your team from playoffs last year to 10th this year? Goalies have their own trophy. Goalies have their own trophy and shouldn't be part of the discussion.

And what about the goalies who should win it over Giroux?
