Rupp is only 32??! Feds 33? They both look so much older than they are.

I know - I had the same thought. Rupp looks ancient compared to the rest of the team, and Feds seems like a guy who's been around the league forever - I always think he's like 35 or 36.

What makes that so remarkable to me is how freakin young this group really is. With the success they had this season and the way the team approaches the game, you almost can't help but take their age for granted. But when you look at the players listed out, and it really hits you how young the players are, it's pretty amazing the direction the team is going. I mean at 27 Girardi is like an old man on our D...

Del Zotto (21)
Erixon (21)
McDonagh (22)
Sauer (24)
Staal (25)
Stralman (25)
Girardi (27)
Eminger (28)

Kreider (20)
Stepan (21)
Hagelin (23)
Anisimov (23)
Zuccarello (24)
Dubinsky (25)
Callahan (27)
Boyle (27)
Prust (28)
Gaborik (30)
Richards (31)
Rupp (32)
Fedotenko (33)

Lundqvist (30)

I love what this team is doing with now and it has been an amazing season thus far. But this team is so young it actually has room to become a lot stronger. Especially as the guys on D really mature. These are good times to be a NYR fan.
I prefer to look at it like this (In-terms of CORE players)

Kreider (20) - Great play so far
Stepan (21) - 51 Point Season
Del Zotto (21) - 41 Point Season
Erixon (21)*
McDonagh (22) - 32 Point Season
Hagelin (23) - 38 Points in 64 Games
Anisimov (23) - 44 Points last Season down to 36 Points
Sauer (24)*
Zuccarello (24)*
Staal (25)
Dubinsky (25)
Callahan (27)
Boyle (27)
Prust (28)
Gaborik (30)
Richards (31)
Lundqvist (30)

Out of that group we know the type of players that Gaborik, Richards, and Lundqvist are, but we need to continue to see progression from players who are coming of age and need to start defining themselves on the ice. In my personal opinion that responsibility is coming around to Anisimov and Dubinsky who have arguably had an off year. Dubinsky to live up to his contract, and Anisimov to utilize everything he has going his way (Skill and size)

I just hope we don't take a step backwards and do something silly like trade for Rick Nash. Keep developing from within. We are headed in a good direction as an organization.

Yeah I completely agree. Everyone on our young team gets more seasoned, gets more playoff experience, Richards has built chemistry, Hagelin gets a full year, Kreider gets a full year, and we're definitely adding one of Ryan, Nash, or Parise. Quite a bright future indeed.

why would it be so silly to trade for one of the best players in the game?

clearly you dont do it for the reported asking price, but if you could do something like...

Dubi, Sauer, Miller, Erixon and a first rounder for Rick Nash, i'd do it.

If we could get Nash that consists of a package of Dubi+Animisov, I would be all over it.

You think Feds looks young? I always thought that he looked 10 years younger. Maybe that's an exaggeration but he looks young to me.

yea its only going to get better with time. I only kept those I see back next yr. Will mention some potential trade options although those players could easily stay too.

Basically I see the same team for next yr.

8 Dmen
Del Zotto (21)
Erixon (21)
McDonagh (22)
Sauer (24)..........lets just hope he's healthy
Staal (25)
Stralman (25)
Girardi (27)
Bickel ( gonna guess he's 25ish ) I think he is resigned for sure based on this yr

13F
Kreider (20)
Stepan (21)
Hagelin (23)
Anisimov (23) .....may be trade bait but he is still really young him
Zuccarello (24)..some will say not to bring him back but I say let him play for sure
Dubinsky (25)....they may take feelers on Dubi but he brings alot of heart
Callahan (27)
Boyle (27)
Prust (28).........needs to be resigned but think he will be around 1.7-2 mil per
Gaborik (30)
Richards (31)
Rupp (32)
Mitchell ( 30ish I would guess ) I think he's a good spare F but not a regular

Lundqvist (30)
Biron( over 30 but I would bring him back as a backup ) great team guy

Only FA I go after is Parise and if they strike out dont bother on another. Resign our own. If the right deal comes up for a Dubi, Anisimov then they may have to go that route.

my vote is no Nash. Kredier is showing he can help already and he's what 5 games into his career with no minor league experience?

Lets just let Miller and Thomas tear it up in CT then call them up when needed.

i know the knock on the team now is lack-of-offense, but if they can keep this team together, i think offense will come around. they'll get more confident and better at skating the puck in and working the puck in front of the net. i think offense is the last to come around with a young team. i would not even bother bringing in a big scoring free agent. just let the team gel.

yay! a positive thread for once.
must be because i'm in the "old" category. i.e. Feds is my age???

while a lot of people seem to like to rag on Stepan (prior to his two game outburst) and Anisimov, they tend to forget they are only 21 and 23! Pretty amazing if you ask me. Dubinsky is only 25. Callahan is 27. When he was 23, he had a whopping 13 points that season, his first "full" season with the Rangers. It took him 4 more years before he broke 25 goals and 50 points so if we can get Mr Bean signed for a reasonable cap number, give him 3 more years, I think we'll see a much better player who is more meeting most Ranger fans' lofty expectations.

110% agreed on this one. And no one knows how the cap become either.

We will be ok for the regular season of 2012-13 and then if we have a need for a face off guy or a PP shot or whatever , we could then trade a pick for a plug in . There should be some guys available even after the big name FA's are looked at . Not much since wrecking a team at this point as if they wanted to go that route...this would have been the year to do it and next season would not make any sense IMO .

Another season would also enable us to get a good read on both Dubi and AA to see just exactly what we have in them...a put out or get out of town season . We would know if they are keepers or sellers at the deadline .
