We still need to have a rule on how a player is selected for a team. Wasn't it last year, the first player to get 3 votes from participants of the mock draft?

We'll just go for need and give them Dumba.

I'm about to PM the next poster.

With the 6th overall pick, the Migh... er... Anaheim Ducks are proud to select Mikhail Grigorenko of the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts.

"Quite frankly, we're surprised he was still available, and had to double-check after the Forsberg selection. We feel that Mikhail has the size, skill, and instincts to challenge for a roster spot as early as next year, and that's significant. Able to carry a line AND make his linemates better, we're elated to be able to add Mikhail at #6."

edit: CS PM'd. How's that for communication without vowels?!

"With the 7th overall pick in this year's draft, the Minnesota Wild are proud to select; from the U.S. National Development Team and Minnesota-born, Jacob Trouba!"

"The Minnesota Wild organization is so pleased to have been able to add Trouba to their team. With the belief that building an organization starts from the net out, the Wild are focusing on building a defensive core around Harding and Backstrom. We started last year with adding Brodin and this year, we add a physical defenseman in Trouba that is a tremendous skater with great speed, moves the puck well, great vision and plays a solid two-way game. We have no doubt that Jacob will be a staple on our back end for a long time."

*Carolina is now on the clock.

"First off, we'd like to congratulate the Phoenix Coyotes on their 1st ever Stanley Cup win. Without further ado, with the 8th overall pick in this year's draft, the Carolina Hurricanes are proud to select forward Teuvo Teräväinen, from Jokerit of the SM-liiga"

"We believe that Teuvo is one of the most offensively gifted prospects of this entire draft. His combination of skills, vision and hockey IQ is lethal and we are absolutely thrilled to add someone of his calibre to our bank of prospects. The evolution of his play with Jokerit, from the early stages of the regular season to the SM-liiga playoffs to the U18s, as the year went on has been quite remarkable and we see no reason why it should stop there. The sky is the limit for this young man. Welcome to Carolina."

*Winnipeg is now on the clock and has been PM'd.

I really hope they get Grigorenko.

There is the danger of Grigorenko being great but he is the only one mentioned in the top 5 who could be a complete bust and leave them with nothing if he struggles and disappears to the KHL Morozov style.

Even if he ends up being a #1 center, he will likely be the type that will fail in the playoffs.

I like grigs, but if i had to give toronto one of the 4 forwards, it would dif be him. The thought of the other 3 with toronto scares me way too much!

Grigs to Anaheim and Teuvo to Canes are solid picks, I feel he'll do well in Cali

"With the 9th overall pick in the 2012 Habs board mock draft, the Winnipeg Jets are pleased and proud to select, from the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League...defenseman, Morgan Rielly."

Write-up is coming later today, I'll be busy this afternoon. Next GM will be PMd.

A lot of "if" in there. As far as Anaheim is concerned, the earlier this pick can step into the mix with Holland (who has far from proven himself at this point), the better. I've seen a lot of Grigs at this point, and I think he's among the most likely to be able to contribute as early as next year. Also, I see him turning into another Bonk at worst, which still fits into Anaheim's plans, so...

I think with the insulation of Getzlaf, and young guys like Ryan, Holland and Etem to play with, he'll do great in Anaheim, less pressure, more of an environment where he can develop.

As the years will pass by, I believe this guy will be better than some that will be picked earlier. Will be known as a steal if picked at that spot.

Very true. That kind of "fit" figured into my selection. That, and I just wasn't going to pick another RH, potentially "smaller" offensive defenseman for Anaheim, lol, and after Forsberg/Grigs, that's pretty much what I had to choose from.
