Sounds like they will use him in passing situations like blitz or cover TE/RB. He probably will play special teams in his rookie year while learning LeBeau's system which takes a year to understand.

Spence was brought in to spy Ray Rice to stop those stupid swing passes they throw to him 100 times a season

More I read about Jean-Baptiste, more I like him. He was projected to be taken in 3rd-4th round.

Even though Jean-Baptiste was dominant at the East-West Shrine, he did not work out at the Combine. Throughout the week in Orlando, Jean-Baptiste showed major potential to be a nose tackle in a 4-3 or 3-4 defense. He was like a bowling ball, rolling through offensive linemen to cause disruption in the backfield. Everyone that went against him had problems with his bull rush.

Jean-Baptiste has natural pad level and consistently gets underneath the pads of offensive linemen to push them straight back. As a senior, he totaled 36 tackles with 8.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks and three passes broken up.

If Steelers are serious about moving Hood to NT, Jared Crick is one player I consider at DE. He was very productive in his junior year at Nebraska but he didn't play much in his senior year due to injury. He's available now.

I know Steelers prefer shorter bowling ball type NT's

I don't see how they hell Hood can be an effective NT. He just is not strong enough and will get pushed around

I was looking at all teams for drafting players. Rams and Bengals have strongest draft so far.

for those that wanted a NT drafted high.

that means less time for last year's #1 pick heyward.

keisel and hood are the starters at end. hamp/Mac at nose tackle.

heyward gets on the field spelling hood/keisel or in sub packages when/if they move ziggy inside.

so im fine with the guys we have now, or taking an NT later on as a developmental guy. get the high picks on the field for christ's sake.

in obvious passing situations they moved A smith inside in the past. i see them doing some of that with ziggy. and thats a position he's familiar with thru college. so i hope he can bring some pressure from the inside

Loving this kid more and more as I read about him:

Quote:
The Steelers plan to groom Spence to eventually take over one of the inside spots.
Spence started 39 of his 40 career games at Miami at weak-side outside linebacker and ranks 11th in school history with 318 tackles that included 10.5 sacks.
Spence is the first Hurricane to record 100 tackles in consecutive seasons. He had 111 in 2010 and 106 last year.
Spence, 21, was a Butkus Award semifinalist as the nation’s top linebacker last year.
“This is a perfect organization,” Spence said. “I am a team player, and I am going to contribute anyway I can. It is going to be great playing alongside those guys like Lawrence Timmons.”

wow very nice. Very rare in the draft for multiple things to go exactly as the fans hope and wish. Decastro then i was just thinking we should just jump up and take ta'amu with him slipping so far and they do. Very nice draft overall. Filling holes and getting good value doing it.

No, we traded 119 to Redskins for 109. I don't know what other picks Steelers gave up.
