Admirals will be a touch series, but The Wale can do it.
I remember seeing the last Whale - Admirals game, Whale could have won it but a couple of quick goals and the Admirals won.

Go Whale!

I would be very disappointed if he can't crack the AHL at this point. He's already 20 years old. He's a top-10 pick two years after the draft. Being unable to play quality AHL hockey at this point would be a terrible sign.

Anyone who read my posts knows that I am always careful with making phenomenal projections or to claim that someone should be making it quickly. This is particularly true for projects like McIlrath.

But we aren't talking about him getting a top-4 role for the Rangers. We are talking about him earning a spot in the minor leagues. At this stage, he has to do it or we are dealing with another Jessiman.

That said, I have every confidence that he has the ability to make it. Someone who can be a top-end player in Traverse is usually able to play AHL hockey. Not always, but usually they are. He was a top-end player in Traverse a full season ago. You have to figure he's shown some improvement since then, which every report says he has. He was certainly very, very good in the WHL playoffs.

I think he's capable of not just cracking the AHL, but being a quality contributor.

It is more difficult to make playoff rosters in the AHL because there are other players joining the team as their teams get eliminated. That said, the Rangers are still playing, so it's not as if there were NHLers going to Hartford.

Kreider went to the NHL, St. Croix is still playing in juniors, Fasth and Lindberg are in Europe, Yoggi and Zuccarello are injured. Of all our decent prospects, only Thomas and Miller joined the AHL. It would have been nice if McColgan could at least play on the 4th line in the AHL, but you can't really expect much from a 5th round pick.

I agree. That's not what I meant. Unless the NYR brass commands Gernander to put him in, he has to figure out which one of his defenseman, who have been together for awhile and are getting ready for a big series against a great team, to sit. I think the likely person to sit would be Jared Nightingale. I hope it happens. Nighty's only purpose is fighting and that doesn't happen much in the playoffs.

Love the McIlrath tweets. Another kid who is saying the right things and has the right kind of character. The Rangers are building much more than just a hockey team. They're building a culture in the organization. 'Bout friggin time!

McIlrath will be on the whale for good now right?...his junior career is done, so next year he will be in camp and then with whale.

Correct. It's either the AHL or NHL for him next season. Most likely the former.

I think he's eligible to play an overage season, but I don't see any way that happens.

He could also end up in the ECHL if he doesn't show that he's ready for the AHL. I don't see that happening either though.

No way he goes back to juniors. The last thing he needs is to continue reinforcing his bad habits against smaller kids that he can maul at will.

What ECHL?! With Vally likely leaving, McIlrath will probably be the top RD in Hartford.

No. Healthy scratch lately. Barely made team out of camp. He's the new Jordan Owens. Even though Jordan Owens is on the team.

Note highlighted game five. LOL.
If a Game 5 is necessary, the Whale will embrace the "Connecticut" in their name. A scheduling conflct at the XL Center (the circus is coming to town) will force the Whale to host the game at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport.
