After that, we played a great game. We kept them to the perimeter, cleared out any rebounds and came into the middle. Two huge goals, one on the PK again. Greener stepping up and making a big play there. It’s a great win. We’ve got to enjoy it for five minutes and then focus in on Monday.’’ (on the Blues’ strong start…) “You expect it. Whenever you’re on the road, no matter what time of the year it is, you expect a team to come out flying in the first 10 minutes on home ice like that. This team is no different. They’re one of the best teams on home ice for a reason. That first 10 minutes shows you probably why. They kind of put us on our heels for a little bit, but we weathered the storm a little bit and we were able to tie it up there at the end of the first.’’ (on the Kings’ defensive adjustments throughout the game…) “I don’t think we made many adjustments. I just think it was the fact of getting our legs underneath us. This is a tough team, to come into their building, and they came out flying. They’re one of the best teams on home ice in the league. We were able to kind of weather the storm a little bit. They got one early, but we were able to get one back at the end of the first and we continued our strong play through the last two periods there."

Then we killed off the ensuing power play, which was a huge turning point. There were a few turning points in the game, but that was one early, because that could have really tipped the scales in their favor. But we got a timely stop and timely goals.’’ (on whether he was trying to bank in his empty-net goal…) “I wasn’t aiming for that part of the boards. I knew that both of the D had come over to my side, so I didn’t want to leave it in the neutral zone. We curl a lot in Manitoba, so I’ve practiced a bit. We just didn’t have the men sweeping.’’ (on the keys to winning on the road in the playoffs…) “Special teams and PK. I’d say that’s number one, when you don’t allow the other team to get confidence on the power play and you score three shorthanded goals. If I’m on the other team, that’s deflating. It’s the same guy doing it. Brownie is the main catalyst on that. He’s tenacious out there on the PK. It’s almost like he enjoys it more than 5-on-5 or the power play sometimes. That’s been a success. And obviously Jonathan Quick.’’ (on Matt Greene’s goal…) “That’s a huge goal for us, and that’s what playoffs are about. It’s about timely goals, and guys who don’t usually score who are stepping it up. We watched the play unfold from the bench. We saw Greener coming up from behind them. Brownie could have dropped it to him and driven to the net or left it at Elliott’s feet. Greener saw an opportunity. That’s a risky play, but it paid off."

They had some good chances tonight, and again Quickie is there for us and we find ways to get timely and big goals.’’ (on Matt Greene’s shorthanded goal…) “I’ve seen him score goals. I haven’t seen him jump up on a PK before, so that was the surprising part for me. Being shorthanded, it’s a huge goal and obviously he made the right read. Greener, it’s hard to find him jumping up 5-on-5. To have him jump up and get a timely goal, shorthanded, is huge for us.’’ (on limiting those net-front chances…) “We were aware of their offensive abilities. With the way we play and the goalie we have, it’s important for us to protect the middle of the ice and try to limit those opportunities. They had a couple early, where they got in and Quickie made big saves. For whatever reason, we gave those chances up, but I think we did a pretty good job of correcting those mistakes and limiting their grade-A scoring chances the rest of the game."

And the puck was laying there. I just chipped it.’’ (on scoring his first career playoff goal…) “It’s good. It’s definitely a great feeling to be able to chip in and help out a little here. We’ve got a lot of work to do. It’s fun right now, but it’s a new day tomorrow.’’ (on getting two goals from defensemen…) “Slava does that all the time, though. That’s huge. He’s been great for us, since he’s been called up, all year. It’s good to get scoring (from defensemen). Sometimes we don’t expect it in the playoffs."

I thought they came out exactly the way they wanted to come out, with the building the way it always is in St. Louis. They had lots of energy early. I thought killing the penalty, for us in the first period, was probably the biggest thing, the biggest difference in the game.’’ (on Jonathan Quick’s big early saves…) “I think both teams are accustomed to having great goaltending.’’ (on his message to the Kings after the Blues’ strong start…) “Composure, right? You’ve been practicing Xs and Os and watching it (on video) for five days. You’re not going to always have the lead and you’re not going to always have the momentum. Keep it settled.’’ (on what he thought of Dwight King’s hit on Alex Pietrangelo…) “I thought it was a two-minute penalty.’’ (on how surprising it was to see Greene going forward on his goal…) “We try to get our D to be as active as they can be when we have control out of the puck. I was probably surprised to see him that far out. Where he scored from, it was just a short rebound goal. Good for him.’’ (on keeping the Blues’ power play off the scoreboard, in the regular season and Game 1…) “We know how good they are, and we know how good they were last series. We just try to find ways. I don’t think there’s magic to it. Quite honestly, 0-for-17 (on the power play) has no bearing on it. It’s about tonight. It’s like us not scoring on the power play. I’m sure they want to get better at it and I’m sure we want to get better at it.’’ (on what he wants to see more from the Kings’ power play…) “Finish the opportunities they had. They had some pretty good looks, guys like Carter and Drew. They’ve got to finish for you.’’ (on taking time off the clock with the third-period power plays…) “You’re more concerned, with the skill level on the other side, (them) doing the same thing we did shorthanded."

- UPCOMING SCHEDULE -

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

Missed last game and can't leave stagecoach until 1am. Tomorrow should be interesting for me so I appreciate the early start for once.

Would love to be up two games on these guys. They're going to come out hard though after the emotion they showed. I get the vibe they are not the most disciplined team so I expect to see them lose their cool if LA extends the lead.

Winning this game would probably have every expert back pedaling and saying how we're legit cup contenders. Dear god how I would love to hear that. Please get it done.

I've worn Kings gear every day (shirt or jersey) since the last game against the Sharks. Not stopping anytime soon. Also, the beard is getting itchy, but **** it. This next game will be even more stressful than the first. But we'll pull through. Blues can't beat us. GO KINGS GO!!!!

Keep wearing it! I lost count of how many faceoffs he won last game, but last recall was 6/7.

He brings so many intangibles to the table.

GO KINGS GO!

Not going to be satisfied with a split. A very significant game here considering Sunday's contest is at noon. We all know how those usually go.

Maybe the pony express rider will have a game update for you. And when's that new telegraph wire gonna make it to stagecoach?

(Those pony express guys are so unreliable at times)

Game 2 advice for Kings: score more goals than other team. That is all.

I'm glad Petro is playing, I don't want to hear any lame ass excuses from these blue fans on why they lost. I would LOVE for the Kings to win tonight to shut some of these posters up on the main forums. "Blue's had a few breakdowns that won't happen again" etc etc etc.....

3-0 Kings. Kings tighten up their D a bit of front of Quickie and no lucky ass deflections for them tonight. Richards/Mitchell and...yes..Stoll scoring for the Kings.
