My Final Top 60 NHL Prospect Rankings for 2012 Draft

http://thehockeywriters.com/final-to...or-2012-draft/

Let me know what you think. I'm assuming not everyone will agree with me, but that is to be expected. Who were good choices? Who were bad? Did I omit anyone that should've been in there? I WANNA KNOW!!

Small error that I noticed with Frk's writeup:

Halifax is playing Rimouski right now in the playoffs.
Chicoutimi is playing Saint John

Whoops. Was looking at the QMJHL site and looked at the wrong matchup.

Forsberg is too low IMO but other than that it looks good.

Interesting.

I'm surprised to see Forsberg and Teravainen so low.

Based on what? Other lists?

Don't meant to lump you into the majority if you have actually seen him play a few times. I just see all of this fake outrage if Forsberg isn't drafted top 2 like when MPS was drafted at 10. Entire team boards are whining and they don't even know why.

I'll say he certainly has the potential to be a top player, but I haven't seen anything truly jump out at me. The U18's showed he could play, but he didn't show up (and neither did his team) in the gold medal game. Not counting out his talent just yet, but I'm hoping next season he will shine.

Named the best player of that GMG, him and H. Linholm were the only ones who stood out that game on the swedish team. He also scored 2 against Russia and 2 points against Finland, he definitely showed up in the big games. In fact, he is always good in the big games, look at last years U18 WC and the Hlinka.

When you have as strong a team as Sweden had and beat Team USA in the 5 Nations tourney a few months back, the fact that not a single goal was scored is pretty astounding. So winning the best player of the game in the gold medal game is not saying much.

I dont agree with Schmaltz so high. I have seen him play numerous times over his career and he is just too careless with the puck in his own end. Very skilled but I would put him mid to late 2nd round.

Schmaltz has really improved his defensive awareness and puck control over the season. I won't disagree that he has had his problems, but the improvement he's made has been very promising.

Guess thats a negative for Yakupov as well then, he did not manage to score a single point against Sweden in last years U18 semifinal or in this years WJC final...

Guess we are going to just disagree here then......out of their top 6 Blueliners he has the worst +/- ratio. On a team that was as stacked as GB was, this is a huge red flag for me. I know Wellinksi was drafted previously but he is far and away the best Dman on their team.

Why did you put Hertl 46th? As an Oiler fan, If he's there at 32... It should be him - Samuelsson or Thrower... whoever drops out of the 1st round

He sure did, after 64 minutes of meh play. There are more important things to consider than single game performances.

Because I feel all the players ahead of him are better...

You're acting as if I put him in the mid-20's or something. He was 6th in my midterm rankings and 7th in my final rankings. He hasn't made extraordinary strides during the season to get placed into my top 5. The 7th spot takes nothing away from the potential he has at the NHL level. I just happened to like 6 other players more than I like Forsberg.

Well, I respect your rankings, just questioning that one argument.

Omission

Yeah, you missed someone, There is a big power forward playing up in a suburb of Edmonton that really needs to be checked out. I could use ALOT of work on conditioning, skating, passing shooting, puck control and especially backchecking/defensive zone play but good character and a great guy in the room. I once brought beer for an entire year and payed double fees just to make a team of close buddies. Now that's commitment!!

Teräväinen has been on rise as of late, so i think he's going sooner.

I'd like to see Rielly, Teravainen and Collberg all higher. Not a bad list though.

Schmaltz improving - you're drunk.

Herbst20 has it right, Schmaltz is way too high. Waiting for upside to show - he's another Ambroz - already topped off.
