david fischer

I've not seen him play or anything, but he has 50 points in 65 games this year (in the ECHL). Might he still have some potential as a pro? Those are pretty good stats for a d-man. He is only 24 or so... 6'3, good wheels.... anyway, just wondering if anyone has watched him played lately?

Nothing is impossible. Look at Matt Carkner, he only made the NHL when he was ~30 years old. Fischer doesn't have his fighting skills though and he was said to be weak physically.

I think that he and Dainius Zubrus are good friends.

Milan Lucic and Brad Marchand say hello though.

no thanks. He's been a total bust for us. I don't want the team to spend more time on trying to save his career.

Spiteful, much?

It's Hamilton. What do we lose if he plays there to develop?

Have to admit I totally forgot about him, thought he was playing in Europe. I'm all for letting him try to play in Hamilton though, as long as its like a 6th to 7th D-man, I don't want him taking up the playing time for new guys coming to Hamilton.

Habs have beaulieu, Tinordi and others who will get prime minutes. David would be smart to stay where he is or he'd be #6 or 7 in hamilton and will ruin his career further.

Don't we not have his rights anymore?

That's why we got a second round pick last draft (which we traded away)

I don't think there's room for him in Hamilton next season... especially if there's a lockout.

Reclaiming David Fischer is analogous to saving bubble wrap, gift wrap, and empty pickle jars. There isn't room in the closet.

If we want to give a chance to a unsigned prospect there are better options out there. And I'm not even sure we want to do that. The blue line in Hamilton will be crowed enough already.

For those not aware, there is a limit, the Habs are only allowed 50 players under contract.

ATO wouldn't be included in the limit I believe.

Beaulieu, Tinordi and Ellis are going to join Hamilton next year. Thats already 3 recruits. Then you have St-Denis who is likely going to be the no1-2 and Nash who needs playing time to make up for his absence last year. All of these guys are much better prospects than Fischer and will need to be surrounded by veterans (guys like Stafford or Henry). As a result he'd end up playing the ECHL most of his time.

The most I'd give him for now is a tryout and he'd need to outplay the Hamilton guys, which he likely won't.

Don't understand why some here feel the need to be so mean...we did get a 2nd Rnd pick as compensation.

I hope Fischer gets a chance with a team like the Oilers' farm team. (and then who knows...maybe make the Oilers' NHL team in a cpuple of years or less...you never know...those are great stats for a Dman even though it's ECHL...pretty darn good).

Good luck to Fischer.

OT:
anyone get the prospects' magazine, yet? (just wondering...). Going to check out the magazine store tomorrow to see if it's in already.

i had to keep checking to make sure this wasn't some kind of ancient bumped thread. i could have understood a thread about wanting kovy back at a tryout or something. but david freaking fischer? lol. i'm thrilled we got a 2nd for him and called it a day.

I'd have no problem with Hamilton (not MTL) signing him and see what he can do in the AHL. If he bombs, nothing lost. If he does well, we can sign him them.
