Mark Messier faceoff specialist???

With the Rangers losing key faceoffs at key times in the playoffs which might come back to hurt them....does anyone think it would be a good idea to have Messier teach the Rangers on all of the different situations with faceoffs???? His experience would help....

he already supposedly did faceoff lessons at some point during the season. Didn't seem to work. Plus in 1994, the Rangers faceoff specialist was MacTavish not Messier.

I thought he only did it with Boyle (and look at the outcome). Perhaps the others might need additional help.

Messier is with the organization and MacTavish isn't....I remember that..maybe Messier can give his mean stare.. maybe that will help...

Faceoffs automatically improve if Richards isn't thrown out 60% of the time....

Messier has helped the last two years I think? More last year, or at least they talked about it during games more last season.

Oh thank god, when I opened this, I thought you were going to propose bringing Messier back to play and take faceoffs.

Thankfully faceoffs, unlike the Rangers other Achilles heel, scoring, can be learned. (that was worded like cr@p but you get the idea)

I think Mess would be better off teaching the guys how to elbow dudes in the mug and get away with it.

That and making game winning predictions...

Phil Esposito had the best advice on how to win faceoffs regularly:

CHEAT!

Wouldn't be a bad idea. We can replace Mitchell with Mess. He's only, what? 51? Gordie Howe played when he was 51.

They have all had experience and know what to do, its just a matter of going out and doing it. It also comes down to strength which is not our strong point in our centers.

they've worked on it since the start of last off-season. These guys just aren't that good at them.

I wonder what it is exactly Messier does... he's not really part of the coaching staff. I figure he is just waiting for Slats to hand him the GM job after he absorbs the gig for a few years. He's definitely being primed to take over. Sathers final transaction before retiring from a life of hockey will be handing the NY Rangers over to his greatest project.
