Doesn't make much sense, unless they want to Huet Kaberle.

Doesn't make any sense at all. Burying him is by far the best option.

Doesn't he have 2 yrs left at about 10M? A buyout would be about 6.66M over 4 yrs, I believe. Leaving 1.65M per year off the cap. It's not as high as I thought. He's not a liability on the ice, just not productive. ie a $1-2M dollar player isn't going to provide much more.

Tough call. I say keep him.... hope my math is correct.

So, is this Bergevin's first move? Starting bad....

Seriously though, Molson said he'll do anything it takes to get a winning team. Dump Gomez to the minors or wait for a change in the upcoming CBA. No need to even have Gomez taking 1$ of salary cap at this point.

Definitely agree. Gomez IS a liability.

The only thing he has for him is being able to bring the puck over the blue line... what happened afterward though....

3.5, 4.5, 1.7, 1.7 . thats whay Mckenzie said on TSN 990 this morning. It would also be a stupid move IMO. Just bury him and save the cap room.

Habs are more classy than the Rangers, they won't bury him.

That's what Habs fans tell me.

It's not necessarily a poor decision to buy him out. It's only a poor decision if you don't care about the money.

He gets $5.5M and then $4.5M in the two years remaining on the contract, for $10M over two years.

If you buy him out, you pay him $6.67M over four years, at $1.67M per year.

You cut your losses on the ice both ways (bury or buyout). You save money by buying him out.

The penalty is cap space, but there are $3.33M reasons why it isn't a poor decision ... if you're writing the checks.

If we buy him out he might end up on another team. And that would be fine with us...

That would probably be the stupidest thing they could do with him.

I pity the fans already. Even at the league's minimum salary Gomez would be a terrible signing.

Stupidest decision would be to bring him back next season or sign him to a contract extension
