Dang no Pierre McGuire? I was really hoping he would finally be off the air.

They didn't pick him simply because he doesn't speak French.

Also, it's just a rumor at this point. It's only 1 guy from Chicago reporting this big news. Nothing has been confirmed yet.

Apparently Kuznetsov is playing 2 more years in the KHL, rather than going to the Caps. Surprising.

Yea. But if he ever decides to come here it'll be on an ELC. It is 4 million reportedly instead of 1 he could make on an ELC here.

Man and here I though WSH was immune to the russian factor. tho i wouldn't be surprised if he still ends up here next year but damn would that suck.

as far as the canadiens GM job goes, who ever gets it will have to find a french coach. maybe if Nucks fire their diving instructor the Canadiens can snap him up

McKenzie has confirmed the Montreal GM hire.

Also, just for Avder, Moulson informed Pierre McGuire that he was the runner up.

The rumor is (and has been since the middle of last season) that Roy is the front runner for that. I haven't heard anything about it since the Remparts' season ended though. Of course, Felix would be much much more in the loop about any rumors on that with the whole, you know, QC thing.

Not so much money. He was getting pressured to stay - something about Kuznetsov wanting to play for Russia in the Olympics.

He's also married and might enjoy the life over in Russia more. Again, one more reason not to draft players out of Russia in the first couple rounds.

I'd say this needs a caveat: "In the first couple rounds, outside of the top 10 overall."

Other that outright busts (*coughfilatovcough*) has there been a single top 10 overall pick that had the "Russian factor" problem?

And Radulov came too when he has re-fined his skills in the KHL -> floating around in neutral zone

Until there's a transfer agreement, no I would not draft a Russian out of the KHL. Considering that Washington was the most Russian-friendly team in the NHL and he still bailed to play overseas, there's no reason to draft them in the top 45 IMO.

Getting a kick out of the 'Canes organization saying they're going to be making a huge splash in free agency this offseason. Probably just as silly as this organization doing it but at least there's a sliver of hope somewhere in there. With Carolina? Ya. Okay...

If you are Russian and play in the NHL, you get blackballed for the Olympics?

That's just dumb.

All NHL players, NHL doesn't want them going in the 2014 olympics because they say it disrupts and costs the NHL money.
Probably will be a point of contention in this CBA.

Oh right, that dumb thing.

NHL needs to just grow up about that. Olympic Hockey is just about the only thing better than Stanley Cup Playoff hockey on the whole planet.
