That's a TON for someone who's never played in NA.... Flames needed something though.

I oversaw the title of this thread on the main board page and went "WHAT? This can't be right".
Guy has never played in NA. He could be the second coming of Jiri "Four goal" Dopita for all we know.

Well, he's too old for the entry-level system, so money likely played a large role in getting him over here.
Edit: Nevermind, forgot that it does still apply since he's European, so a lot of it is likely to be performance bonuses.
It will be interesting to see him in the NHL.

A lot of money for a guy who's never played in the NHL. That said, he was a tremendous scorer overseas and a lot of teams have been rumored to be after him for a while. It's a risky signing. I'd say this is exhibit B. that the Flames are not going to be rebuilding this summer (Sutter was exhibit A)

As an Avs fan I don't like this one bit. Flames overpaid by a little bit, beacuse Cervenka didn't show what he can do in the NHL, but he's a really good player.

See ya, Olli.
Apparently a lot of his salary is also structured in bonuses. He only makes about $1m if he flops.
Between this guy and Ramo I am very excited that the Flames are starting to step outside the box and possibly stockpiling some very good overseas players.

A lot of teams showed interest in him.
Scouting report:
Quote:
An offensive forward with a good shot. A good skater and passer who reads the game well. Cervenka is at his best in the offensive end but also handles his defensive duties well. A reliable scorer.
- Czech
- Center
- 26 years old
- 100 points in 105 career KHL games

Cervenka is really good, I have no idea how he fares on a smaller rink though. He certainly has the skills though.

I think he'll look good on the smaller NHL ice.

Correct. He has to hit bonuses to make that.

If he thrives, Calgary just found a good top6 center for years to come. It's the right place to overpay IMO. If he stinks it up, no harm done.
