Lundqvist, Malkin and Stamkos : Lindsay finalists

Andrew Gross on Twitter

Lundqvist, Pens' Malkin and Lightning's Steven Stamkos announced by NHLPA as finalists for Ted Lindsay Award as most outstanding player.

So that's Vezina, Hart and Lindsay nominations for Hank. Not bad.

Very surprised he was nominated for the Lindsay and Hart trophies.

I was surprised when I saw he was nominated for the Hart.

I was surprised when I learned there was an award named after Ted Lindsay.

People are recognizing what it takes to play in the toughest division in the NHL. Lundqvist deserved the Lindsay nomination over Quick. Because, frankly, I thought Lundqvist was better this season. That said, I think Quick could have gotten the Hart nomination over Lundqvist. I also don't have a problem with Stamkos being nominated for the Lindsay, since this is "most outstanding," he can certainly make the case.

I know people will say "Did you ever think the Pacific was lower scoring because QUICK was in it?" And I will never buy that argument. Playing in one of the lowest scoring divisions in hockey, and not putting up better numbers than Lundqvist who played in the highest scoring division, doesn't help Quick's case. Just my opinion, but competition DOES matter.

I'm not sure anyone is ever serious when they say that the Pacific is lower scoring because of Quick. A ridiculous argument because Lundqvist had virtually identical stats and the Atlantic teams still are up there in goals scored.

Would it be possible, strictly hypothetically, if Hank won the Hart, but lost the Vezina? Has this every happened?

Hopefully this shuts up anyone saying Henke shouldn't be a Hart finalist. The fact that he's a Lindsay finalist shows that the players consider him to have been a top 3 player this season, so that should put any criticism of Hart voting to rest.

I honestly don't think there is anyway he loses out on the Vezina after being nominated for MOP and MVP.

Has happened twice. Last time it happened was 60 years ago.

It would be my dream to hear the NHL awards host say, "Will the Stanley Cup winner and Conn Smythe winner Henrik Lundqvist come up to accept the Vezina, Lindsay, and Hart trophies".

That was back when the Vezina was automatically given to the goalie(s) who gave up the fewest goals. No voting. You have to go back crazy far to find a year where the Hart was given to a goalie who wasn't given the Vezina by vote.
