What do you all think of Panther UFA defenseman Jason Garrison ?
Scored 16 goals, 9 on the power play, has decent size at 6'1" 220, is only 27.
I don't know anything about him, but on paper he looks good.
I'd be wary of him. My feeling is that he is a product of being paired with Campbell, whereas before, his numbers weren't that great nor was his play.

Think of it like this...
Every time I watched Florida play in the regular season AND the play-offs, whenever Garrison was in the line up, he was never the primary threat. The primary threat was always Campbell. I hesitate to back the truck up for any player that didn't display above average-ness when they were considered the primary threat.
We all hated on Zidlicky for the same reason. Garrison would be Zidlicky 2.0. Without a primary threat to draw the attention of opponents, Garrison would put up relatively low numbers.
Would he have been an upgrade over what we had last year? Sure. Will he be the cog which makes our blue line not suck? No.
He's a decent guy, not an upgrade in the top pairing which is what we need, but if we can't get Suter, IMO don't break the bank on a second pairing guy. Especially with all the meh 7th D guys we have signed.
this is prob near impossible but i would like johnny boychuk on the wild. does joe corvo have any gas left in the tank, he could potentially be decent?

the Wild to sign Alexander Semin. EVERYBODY wants Parise & Suter, but if the Wild gave Semin the royal treatment, they could get him.
I'd also wager they could get him at dollars and term that would be less insane than Parise or Suter will command as well, probably not a Havlat-like contract, but close. I don't want the Wild to have a guy making 7+ for 10 years or whatever, especially a guy on the wrong side of 25.
Semin has great talent and can flat-out score. He seems to have a bad rep on HF Boards, so if someone would care to elaborate, I'm willing to listen and have my mind changed.
Pretty sure I read a while back Russo saying the Wild have absolutely zero interest in Semin. I'll see if I can find it.
P.A. Parenteau. If NY cant get him we should look into it
Parenteau was on my mind as well for a top 6er. As he's played 161 games the last two seasons, he already blows Fatentenderness out of the water. I do suspect if he leaves Long Isle he'll command pretty big $$$. He's put up the numbers to get it. I just wonder how much his stats are him being a late bloomer, or him winging it with Tavares. Who knows he may be great with Captain and Heater.

Good. I hope that is true. We do not have a good record with eastern Europeans. I do not especially want to get a Russian that already has a rep of one who floats and puts forth effort on the ice when the mood strikes him. North Americans, Finns and Swedes preferred. If I'm allowed to profile a bit.
I wonder if Fletch may chat with San Jose to see what it would take to get Ryan Clowe. Or maybe make an agreement with Harding for a sign and trade with TB and make a deal for Ryan Malone. Just spitballin here.
As far as the blueline. I'd like to see us take a run at Oduya(Swede born!!)
Quote:
ASSETS: Is a great skater with the instincts to limit the damage to a minimum in the defensive zone. Owns an infectious attitude and is a solid teammate. Can occasionally play a shutdown role.
FLAWS: Isn't a major offensive threat, nor is he big by National Hockey League standards. Also lacks the temperament to play with physical aggression on a consistent basis. Lacks consistency.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Mobile defensive defenseman.
Although saw this below is synopsis, so not optimistic:

2012/04/26: The Chicago Blackhawks are interested in re-signing Johnny Oduya. Oduya is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after being acquired on Feb. 27. "He came in at a time when the team needed some experience and some veteran presence and also somebody who could eat up some minutes," Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman said. "He was an important part of that stretch run, so we're very interested in continuing to talk to his group about where he fits in with our team next year." Oduya had 18 points and 33 penalty minutes in 81 games with Chicago and Winnipeg in 2011-12. (Source: Chicago Tribune)
I've also been a big Barret Jackman fan. I could see him being a nice pairing with Spurgeon.
I was thinking today about Parise. I am starting to worry about the success of the Devils and how it could keep Zach around. What do you all think? I think that IF they win the cup, he will leave. But, the more likely scenario is that they get make the finals and lose, and then he wants to go back to NJ next year.
