I can't see Stajan being tradeable. Despite a miracle, Stajan stays and Jokinen goes.

Feaster said they see him fitting into the top 6, he didn't necessarily say centre, but I think that is the plan. I see Cervenka as a backup plan of sorts to not getting someone like Turris this past season.

Honesty, I would prefer to deal Stajan, and use the cap space freed up there to resign Jokinen, but to no more than a 3-4 deal, and no more than 4 million. If he wants more than that, then he can go somewhere else. Having a top 6 of Jokinen, Cervenka and Backlund would be fine with me.

Linus Omark 24 yr old 5'10" 180 lb 0.875M

Omark has had .75PPG production when given 2nd line 2nd PP unit play in the NHL.
Plus you likely could have him for a 3rd round offer sheet.

the answer is 2.5M.

Cervenka likely won't even earn his full contract, we have lots of space, we gave up no assets to get him, I don't know what the issue is.

Playing Devil's Advocate, the only issue I'd see if having Cervenka being a terrible liability and costing us games. But that's a weak argument at best.

Omark has already demonstrated that he can't take a regular shift in the NHL.

The fact that they have similar stats in one year in the KHL does not make them equivalent players.

Jagr (Omsk): 51Gm, 22G 20A 42P
Cervenka: 51Gm, 31G 30A 61P

Look, I can do it too.

I like the move, if for no other reason that it's something completely different from what the Flames normally do.

Stop, you'll make them think that Omark>Jagr.

anyone else notice that Cervenka played on the same KHL team as Kari Ramo? They lost the final game of the KHL championship by 1 goal. I know Ramo has one more year on his contract in KHL, but some other guys have been able to get out of KHL contracts....Konopka and Kyle Wellwood to name 2.
Ramo is about the same age (actually 7 months younger) as Cervenka. I imagine as 2 of the 4 non-Russians on the Omsk team, they probably developed quite a friendship and Ramo may be envious of Cervenka moving to the NHL.

This is a pretty legitimate point. I was thinking maybe Ramo influenced Cervenka's decision to sign with the Flames?

Yes. And if Ramo were to come over this year, sddenly the prospect of trading Kipper becomes much more real.

And another interesting thing about this signing is that Cervenka and Jagr desire to play together - and Jagr is a UFA this summer.

Curiouser and curiouser.

I'd say non existent is more like it. He has maybe one more NHL season in him, he will sign wherever he feels gives the best shot at the Cup. That is not here, I think he will be back in Philly.

easy big guy

Jagr is a UFA. Did you call Wideman to CBJ last year?

Not saying put it in the bank, just saying it's a thread on which to give it a shot

I'm glad Feaster isn't as defeatist as you all are

He could probably be had for less. I'd imagine the Oils won't qualify him if he isn't traded by July 1st.

He would have been eligible at some point in time, but looking at his stats line, he didn't get much of a chance in the Czech senior league until he was 21, past the age of draft eligibility.

And then his Czech Extraliga stats went from 12 points -> 30 -> 59 -> 73 points (in 50ish games) prior to his move to the KHL.

I don't think that is necessarily true. Isn't he making 2.5 next year with a 3.5 cap hit?

Teams trying to hit the cap floor might bite if they get him for super cheap.

Yes, that is correct.

Now that he has only two years on his contract, plus the fact that his salary is only $2.5 each year, plus the fact that he showed down the stretch that he is still a useful player, he definitely has some value and is tradable. Not a ton, obviously, but some.
