Lightning To Get New "Dallas Cowboysesque" Scoreboard
Filed under the "Lightning have no money and an owner who won't spend money on the team".
The Lightning will be replacing their already pretty top of the line LED scoreboard next season with a new one.
It will be approxiamately 50' wide by 30' tall. Stretching blue line to blue line. Everything top of the line in design.
In his previous years renovations, Vinik added the worlds largest permanent installation of tesla coils and the world largest pipe organ.
Now with this being announced it will be the largest in the NHL by far.
I'm excited about it, Vinik is really putting his money into this team and forum for the long term and after the past few years of precious ownership we had to deal with its great as a fan to see.
Can't wait to see what it looks like. No doubt in my mind that it will be nothing short of amazing.

Was hoping it read "Dallas Cowboysesque Cheerleaders" and not "scoreboard."

First time I was at Consol and saw the Pens new jumbotron, I kept catching myself looking up to watch on the giant screen instead of the actual ice beneath me. Can't imagine how much more distracted I'd be with this thing.

They don't its just like hey look at us we ain't cheap ya'll we got lots of money now and we gonna spend it on fancy new items.
I like smaller scoreboards not giant ones that take up the entire ceiling.

It's just almost too big. No reason to have that. Gaudy actually.

Well, the old one needed replacing. The bigger the screens, the more useful it becomes. The forum isn't just used for hockey either...
You don't have to look at it.

If you're in the upper deck you will.

Not really, my season tickets are nose bleeds and I hardly notice the current scoreboard. Based on the size differences the new one will be just fine.

On behalf of the Wild, I'd like to offer instead the UFA rights to Josh Harding and a 3rd rounder. I know the Bolts could use some goaltending.
For an arena that's only 12 years old, I swear I've seen kitchen appliances with higher resolutions than our scoreboard.

Hmmmm. maybe we'll just stuff the old scoreboard in net next season.
Ol' Jonny Scoreboard. He isn't so good at handing the puck, but he's unbeatable through the 5 hole.

From blue line to blue line?
Methinks the Lightning are trying to compensate for something.

Thankfully, it has undergone a name change and is now the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
That said, long-time Lightning fans will always call it the Ice Palace.

Just an excuse to get fans out to the game. Fans in the south obviously don't care about hockey and need other reasons to go out to the game.
