- 2012 1st Round Pick (10th Overall)
- Conditional 2nd in 2013 (if Oilers 2013 is a top 10 pick)
This gives Yzerman anotehr 2nd this year (to package to move up with te Wings 1st if he wants) as well as potentially a high (more likely 11th-15th pick IMO) pick in a deep 2013 draft. While the Oilers end up in position to draft one of the better defensemen in this years draft as well as Nail. It also somewhat protects the Oilers if they end up with what shoul dhave been a top 10 pick in that deep 2013 draft.
Basically Columbus and Edmonton swaps picks with Columbus gettin rid of Mason they so desparately want. Columbus gets a centre to complement Johannsen by trading Savard.
This gives the Oilers at a chance to draft MacKinnon. Columbus gets to get rid of Mason's contract. Also if Mason can turn it around in Edmonton the Oilers might very well get the tender they've been longing for. Savard will end up being a very good #1 PP dman. MacKinnon might be the centre for Yakupov and Hemsky.
I'm confused. We give up what you (and me as well) expect to be a better pick, just so we can offload Mason? Rather just ****ing put him on waivers, buy him out, or even just keep him as the backup than risk that ****. Not to mention we like Savard and don't need Gagner.
Edmonton might be the hardest team to predict for the upcoming season providing they dont make major changes, theyre so top heavy that a couple injuries could see them in the basement again, big risk if youre edmonton. For it to work a team would have to be loaded on defence, if la had kept johnson then something around a voynov + for 1st could of worked. What teams out there have an abundance of dman?

St.Louis has Ian Cole, who i think would make sense. Young probable top 4 guy who may be expendable. I started a thread on it, check it out everybody

Columbus, Florida and Nashville.
If Nashville retains both Suter and Weber then Ellis and Blum might be odd men out. Suter, Weber, Klein, Josi are their top 4.
Florida, Gubrannson, Kulikov, Campbell, Jovo are probably their top 4. Depends on whether they want Garrison back or not. They still have Ellerby, Robak, Bengtsson and Petrovic of note.
Columbus,wWith Wis, JJ, Methot, and Tyutin all locked up long term in theri top 4. Some dmen might be available. Moore is probably untouchable for them. Savard and Goloubef available of note.

Awful.
If ownership tells Howson to unload a 3.2M contract he'll do it. 3.2M for a backup is a lot of money.
Tambolini would be stupid to do it. It could get him in a lot of trouble. If he trades the 2013 pick and Edmonton is still a bottom 3 or even a bottom 5 teams it'll make him look like an idiot and it could jeopardize his job.
Any GM not working for the Oilers would be stupid to make such deal with Edmonton even if it was right before training camp.
We need to remember that we haven't even really hit the off-season yet. Edmonton could end up making the right moves in the off-season to make them look like they're in line for 10th-12 overall... heck... they could even put it all together and turn out being a playoff bubble team. Way too early to tell.
Another thing we need to remember is that guys like Hemsky(I highly doubt it) and Whitniey have the potential to have bounce back years. Assuming Edmonton signs Yakupov and nabs a top 4 d-man in the off-season, Edmonton could be a very competitive team next year.
I can't see GMs of other teams taking chances like that so early.
