Mcphee deserves props on this one

Instead of drafting a Tyler Biggs like player at 25 he traded for a player better than Biggs will ever be and ready right away. Bravo

A few players talked about the lack of Troy Brouwer, or i.e. a lack of net presence....
...
The pining for Troy Brouwer is interesting, and leads to another load of crap from Joel Quenneville to Adam Jahns about how team chemistry was off.

It's still obvious that the "core" misses their buddies from two years ago. Brouwer being one of them.

While Brouwer being jettisoned was an odd choice even in the summer, seeing how quickly it was done, it was a bigger question on the ice than off it. Or it should have been. But what's done is done.

Agreed, for sure.

Wasn't the sexiest looking move but, far from a bad one. The guy I probably wanted at the time, Nicklas Jensen, will probably be a Brouwer type player anyway... in 3 or so years. The only guy I would've wanted in the late teens to high twenties was Mark McNeill and he wasn't going to slide any further.

Atta boy GMGM on this one, wouldn't mind seeing a similar move this year with the Caps' own 1st rounder, unless they can package both their picks together to get one of the top forwards.

I'd be more than happy if he did it again this year with a pick of some sort (not Colorado's, and maybe not the first)

Possible candidates that fit a similar profile (pending RFAs who may not fit in financially):

Mason Raymond
Chris Stewart
Sergei Kostitsyn
Alex Radulov
Jakub Voracek
TJ Oshie (depending on how true the talk of an internal Cap is)
David Perron (see Oshie)

I would want any of those other than Raymond and Kostitsyn.

I mean Oshie? **** yes I would love that.
All the others to a less extent.

I'd give up our first for any but Raymond and Kostitsyn.

the 26th pick would've buried that chance. Jury still out...

After that miss his play went way south, like barely able to play the puck south. It looked like Schultz on an off day. That must have really messed with his head.

Because he has 100% got to bury that. He's missed a few wide open nets this year, but none more costly than that.

Hope he bounces back and plays for redemption Saturday.

I agree, but that's no excuse for his play to go down the crapper afterwards. Gaborik rang one off the pipe and potted the GWG not too long after. Brouwer treated the puck like a hand grenade after his miss.

I too hope that Brouwer is the kind of guy that bounces back and makes a big impact. The team needs all hands on deck on Saturday.

I agree that he should've held it together. and I absolutely HATE that it was Gaborik who won it. Here's hoping this doesn't spark him for the series.
