Matt Hendricks

I am a leaf fan and I personally am neutral with the washington capitals but....

WOW Matt Hendricks is the nastiest player in the shootout! 7 for 11 in his career and 4 for 5 this year.

That is ridiculous

biggest beauty on the ice too, can fight, score, grind and has nastyy handss

Lay down.

Stay.

I always find it amusing when a goalie just gives up and lays on the ice before the shot ever happens. What will his next move do, hopefully go make the G hide in the net.

you know those shootout chances where the opposition shoots it by neuvirth before he even moves? thats what it looks like when a goalie doesnt bite on shooting cues like hendricks shows.

watch the replays. his stick totally torques like he is shooting hard. goalies see that and butterfly. then he doesnt shoot and they are hosed. if i am a goalie, i make him shoot it. but reality is that the first goalie that is going to make him shoot it, he will and they will look like a statue.

He needs to cherrypick more so we can spring him on breakaways.

I honestly think if they played him deeper and made him shoot, he'd probably send it wide more often than not. His dangles are better than his snipes.

But we won't find out until they start forcing him.

He is one of my Cap favorites. He hits, sticks up for teammates, play special teams, and something we really needed, a shootout specialist. He has had some good games against Toronto.

He doesn't actually put any pressure or bend on the stick at all. He twists the whole stick so it looks like there's a heavy load on the blade, causing it to bend backwards. It's a pretty subtle little move that allows him to deke it out wide quickly afterwards (which he would be unable to do had he put any bend on the stick).

But yeah, first goalie to not react is going to have a pretty easy time with the resulting dekes... unless he's got a second deke for when the goalie doesn't move that we've just never seen before, since he's never had to use it.

He tends to go to the left (backhand-forehand) instead of the right (forehand-backhand) if the goalie reads it better. He even did it on Thomas as he dove/fell over to the right after biting on the shot.

I think it's funny how you can always here him screaming on the ice/bench

"GET IN THERE"
"WHAT THE FACK"
"FEET FEET"

all game long almost every time it's him

The guy is having a whale of the playoffs. All die hard Caps fans know this, but he has far exceeded expectations. Even on the GWG last night - there he was trying to direct traffic to a missed assignment. 11 hits, even stepped into help our lame duck faceoff numbers and went 12-5.

Among the league leaders for hits in the playoffs. Damn Callahan.

So if Brouwer gets bumped, Hendricks is getting bumped too. I remember seeing his stats from Colorado when we got him, and figured he would be a good addition for our team.

His play now vs a year ago, is night and day. Last year in 7 playoff games, he only had 14 hits. I think he was injured, or just worn down from fighting perhaps. He was near invisible. Dale has bumped up his responsibilities and he is rolling with it. He is maybe the closest we have to a Dale Hunter on the roster heh.

If we only had 12 Brook.... eeer Matt Hendricks's.

And if Brouwer could have converted that easy goal Hendricks set on a plate for him right after that might have been one of the best sequences I have ever seen from a Cap.

hendricks was 1 of the top plyers on the ice in game 3. has consistently played well this postseason.

I think he's guaranteed a contract extension with the Caps after these playoffs

I hope so, he's earned it. The wife and I met him at the convention in 2010 when he just got here. Hard working player and a good guy. Plus he's a new parent of twins just like us, so I know very well he's not getting all the rest he should at home and he's still giving 120%.

Yeah last year he had a good regular season but wasn't able to raise his game for the playoffs at all and it made you wonder if he was giving so much in the regular season he didn't have anything more to give.

This year his regular season play outside of in shootouts wasn't up to last year's standards but his play in the playoffs has been excellent.

I think it just goes to show what confidence can do for a player.

DH has a ton of belief in Hendricks...he was a 4th line energy player under BB but under DH he is a shutdown 3rd liner who has seen his ice time pretty much double.

9 for 9 on face offs last game??? 12-5 the game before? Leading the NHL in hits this playoffs?

Guys like Beagle and Hendricks are really ramping up their play as their coach has a great deal of belief in them.

I think it was during one of the post game press conferences, Dale Hunter was asked and I believe it was Katie Carrera who asked it, but he was asked which current Capital player reminded Hunter of the way he played the game. I didn't hear Hunter's response, but I'd say in this series it would have to be Hendricks.

He didn't answer that question - said I am really old, and said its a team game blah blah. But Hendy is an obvious candidate.

I had faith in Hendricks by just looking at his stats in Colorado. He seemed exactly that type of player we lacked. While I wondered what was wrong that Colorado didn't want him, my fears were eased when he potted a hat in preseason. Some skill and some toughness and decent enough skating to be able to hang. Those are prototype playoff guys to me. When the games get tougher, they don't have to adjust their games to hang. A guy like Flash or Sarge to compare, are just not going to adapt easily.
