The Saskatoon Blades have acquired Rangers prospect Shane McColgan from the Kelowna Rockets in a WHL draft day deal.

The Blades are the hosts of the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup and this means McColgan will automatically being playing hockey with the Blades well into May of next year, a great chance for him to develop further and get a ton of great exposure.

Rangers fans should be excited for this.

The draft is done before the Memorial Cup?

Interesting

It's done like that in the OHL and the QMJHL as well.

Great news. Finally get to see him on a team where he isn't so heavily relied upon to be "the guy."

Yeah, I wasn't overly enthused with his situation in Kelowna. Hopefully he can ratchet it up a notch in Saskatoon.

Do the Rangers have to approve these junior trades?? What if a prospect gets traded from one junior team to another and doesn't develop properly after the trade????

there is no way that junior clubs need permission from nhl to conduct trades

The NHL team that owns the player's rights can lobby for the junior team to trade the player if they feel the player isn't in a good situation. But the junior team is under no obligation to do so.

Oh Crap, the girl friend is going to be pissed about this... i'll try not to tell her all the way until the season starts... until the puck drops she'll be like: "Where's Shane"

"Oh yeah babe i forgot to tell you, he got traded!"

2 assists and a -2 in 3 games. Oil Kings are down 2-1 in the series.

Haven't watched any of the games so don't know how he has played, but his stat line is not all that good...

MSC will be playing in game 6 of the WHL finals tonight. OilKings have 3-2 series lead and are looking to lock it up. If I don't see good things in the Rangers game, I'll swap games.

St.Croix scored a goal against the Winterhawks, but the OilKings lose 2-3.

Game 7 to decide who will be the WHL champs and who gets to move on to play for the highly most coveted Junior award - The Memorial Cup.

I think the loser of the host team gets to advance to the Memorial Cup, but I'm not certain.

I remember there was a scenario like this with the Vancouver Giants a few years ago, when they were the hosts for the Memorial Cup.

Edit: The 2005 London Knights won the OHL championship and won as the hosts in the same year at the memorial cup. The runner up team in the OHL finals, Ottawa 67's, were the OHL representative for the Memorial Cup along with the Knights.

Michael Sauer's Medicine Hat Tigers beat the Vancouver Giants in WHL finals in 2007 but VAN was hosting the Memorial Cup so they advanced to the tournament. VAN won it that year after losing in the WHL finals by beating MH in the Memorial Cup final. They had acquired Sauer from Portland that season.

The Penticton Vees won the RBC cup tonight with a 4-3 win over the Woodstock Slammers. Steven Fogarty had a goal and an assist and was named player of the game.

St. Croix and the kings win game 7 and the WHL championship!!

MSC on his way to the memorial cup now which they have a good shot to win.

He really picked it up the last 5 games of the finals with 2g/5a, including the GWG in tonights game.

Great experience for the kid!!
