The hell told you that? No Stars fan would say that because Morrow doesn't play center and never has.

Benn plays center because he can more greatly effect the game from center compared to playing the wing.

If the roster was already filled, what are they supposed to do? It bothers me, though, that Hockey Canada fills so many roster spots so early. There's no need for it.

Hockey Canada has been pissing me off lately - too complacent, and I wonder why, considering we're ranking 5th in the world.

Maybe it's time for new leadership...

Yeah I wish they would have waited. But I don't think anyone would have thought that Canucks, Red Wings, Bruins, Penguins, Sens would all be out in the first round

Exactly my point... if a guy like Jason Spezza is available for the WC and is willing to go.. you don't say no to something like that because you decided to fill up your entire roster before the 1st rd of the playoffs.

Maybe Kevin Lowe is aiming for a top draft pick.

So you go back to a guy who has already agreed to play and say, sorry, we've found somebody better? Hockey Canada would never do that, nor should they.

The tournament rules require that a 17 man roster must be submitted to the IIHF some 2-3 weeks before the tournament starts, leaving only 6 spots left for players from teams eliminated from the playoffs. Hockey Canada pretty has to start inviting players as soon as their team is eliminated from the playoffs. If you wait until the end of the 1st round, you wind up with a team that has not practiced together before the tournament starts. Put that up against a team like Finland or Czech Republic who have largely been playing together for the past month, and the result is usually a Canada loss.

Strange that Purcell gets to play over Ladd.

Terry Jones is reporting that we should know soon about defenseman. They're having trouble asking/hearing from the guys because of the big time difference.

I hope Burrows doesn't rub off too much on Nuge and Eberle. Will be hard to rack up those Lady Byngs with biting and hair pulling majors.

Purcell's pretty good, and he's got a lot of size. I'd probably go with Ladd for the x-factor too, but Purcell isn't a bad guy to beat him out.

Or you could say its a good think Nuge and Eberle are playing with real NHLers like Burrows etc rather than what the oilers offer up.

All kidding aside, I think that Burrows will be a really nice fit with the kids.

They do this every ****ing year. It annoys me so much.

Look at what Sweden has done with their team.

To be fair to Hockey Canada, I can't imagine it is easy to ask millionaires to postpone their annual vacation for a few weeks, without guaranteeing them a roster spot.

If I am a Canadian player and my team didn't make the playoffs my decision tree looks like this:

Asked to play on Team Canada:

Yes > keep skating through April
No > take a month off before starting my summer training

I think the burrows + oilers line will do extremely well, Burrows should create some space for the kids
