Part of turnovers was a result of tenacious aggressive play from the Rags. Watch every breakout play, our guys in center are marked, and its all they can do to barely get a stick on the puck to avert an icing. In fact, that seems our breakout play more often than not. We saw BB doing the same things all the way back against Philly, guy standing at the center red. But not nearly as much as we do now. I think man coverage has our breakout messy as hell.

Major PP adjustment needed:

No more Wideman as puck carrier. I can't remember a single time they've established the zone when he's carried it past the center line.

Look at this.

Rangers win, and their fan base is invading our boards. Just like after the 1st game.

Hey guys, show up when you lose too, mmkay?

I seem to remember Ovi flubbing a 1 timer in OT - one of our better chances. Later, he caught it first and shot, and Lundy was there. Can't win.

Too bad Brow didn't pot that great chance after the Hendy pancake.... but I don't blame him. We miss great shots all the time, hit the pipe, or crest the G.

It seemed the Rags ate a lot of pucks yesterday. Hits not as damaging perhaps, but I do want to see Ovi and Hendy keep on truckin'. How about Semin cranking one off of Boyle, jeez its rare to say getting hit on the head with a puck is lucky but he was that it deflected off his shoulder first.

We beat the living hell out of them. They were bloodied and bruised.

In the end, the game came down to pure luck.

Both teams were tired and they had the upperhand in 3 OT. We outplayed them in the first two OTs. And even in the 3rd.

I wanted to see a few more hits thrown late in the game, but I think it was obvious the players were tired, and the hitting slowed down. But I think there was a window in maybe the 1st or 2nd OT where we could have worked McD a bit more.

There were good chances for both sides to win, while I don't call it pure luck, it certainly could have gone either way.

Ovi 13 TOI - goal! Ovi 35 TOI - no goals. That's hockey for you.

power play

I was wondering why they would't try chimmer on the power play since it isn't working that well at present. They tried ward for a few seconds last night but that didn't seem to work although it wasn't a large amount f time.

I didn't see luck factoring into the winning goal. Looked like a perfectly executed scoring play. The Rags dictated play in OT 3 and the result confirms that. The game should of never gone to OT in the first place, never mind 1 OT or 2 OT, but thats the price the Caps payed for not finishing a **** ton of chances throughout the game.

If the Boys come out strong Saturday I think they win based on the insane TOI logged by the Rags D. And if the Boys win Saturday, I like their chances to wear down the Rags throughout the rest of the series, but a win Saturday is a must.

Luck didn't factor into the winning goal, but it factored into the opening goal hugely, and into Ovie's hitting the post.

The Caps have had terrible luck this series. Very few fortuitous bounces.

No doubt. The difference between the Rangers entering the zone and the Caps entering the zone is night and day.

The Caps don't move into the zone with speed at all. If the puck carrier can't dodge the first 2 defenders, it's right back out. When they do try to dump it, they're never first on the puck and its usually not even very close. I'd definitely try Green on PP1. It can only go up from where they're at now.

I thought it was interesting that he tried the $3M man for a short while. He potted some PPGs for the Preds in years past. The only trouble is the Caps actually need to have control of the puck in the offensive zone for him to really make his mark.

Normally I'd say they're done, but the team's shown resiliency this post-season. Not to mention the Rags D is getting worked, especially McDonaugh who got 50+ minutes last night.

It is frustrating as hell that we've had more PP's than the opposition only twice this post-season, and not once against the Rags yet.
If games like that test anyone's fandom, I'd suggest another sport. The Caps have played and lost these games with historical regularity sure, but that game was epic. Part of history we all got to enjoy.

If anything this strengthens my resolve as a Caps fan. We may lose this series, but I feel like we're the better team. Take away Hank from the Rangers and they don't even make the playoffs.

We still got this series. We'll win game 4, lose 5, win 6, win 7.

Little harsh don't you think? I mean he coached them to the playoffs when it looked bleak and his star players were playing like 3rd liners all year. He coached them to beat the Bruins when NOBODY expected it.

Give the guy a break, accept he knows more about hockey than us, and enjoy the series a little.

it wouldnt be the end of the world if hunter knew anything about making adjustments. anything at all. but he doesnt. rangers will keep doing what theyre doing, caps will keep scoring 1 goal, rangers will take it 4-2 at best. sad but very likely. i didnt let myself believe this after game 1 where it was clear the caps could quite easily take the series 4-1, but then we're reminded how much of a moron dale is.

The Caps got very lucky on Carlson's goal with Staal's swipe away hitting Carlson on the glove and sitting right there for him. That could have gone anywhere. That was a very fortuitous bounce...

Post-game taunting between Caps fans and Rags players. Is flipping fans off allowed by the NHL?

Ference got fined $2500. That'll be the extent of it.

Sucks to lose like that, but nothing to be ashamed of. Good to hear that Holts and Alzner are keeping it in perspective. I feel for Verizon fans who had to go home late after a loss like that. But looking forward to Game 4.

The Rangers having the only two PPs of the OT definitely contributed to the extra Caps fatigue.

I'm pumped for the next game.
