LaHair with another clout.

The Shark with 61 pitches through 6 innings, abusing the strike zone.

A 3 OT game and a no hitter. An excellent night for my 2 favorite sports, despite the Sox loss.

Red Sox sign Prior to minor league deal. Not that it means anything.

Cubs up 3 going into 9th. Reds tie it in 9th and win it in 10th. Figures.

Yeah, walked 3 batters and gave up 1 hit without recording an out.

It still baffles me that the cubs decided to hold on to him. You know you're rebuilding, why do you need a "closer" if you don't plan on winning? Shoulda dumped him at the deadline or even before the start of last year. IRC several teams were in the market for a closer.

Agreed, I don't know what Marmol's issues are but at this point it is time to trade him.

Now is the worst possible time to trade him, he has negative value at this point. DL him to get his head straight, hope he turns in a great half of May, all of June, and some of July. Then sell for a good prospect if he can manage to do that, but a contender who is willing to overpay. He makes $7M this year, and almost $10M next year. If you trade him now, you're not getting a damn thing and you're eating his salary. You just need to hope to God he can somehow recapture his dominance for an extended period of time.

Why keep Marmol if you don't plan on winning?

Isn't that kind of obvious.

Once the league sees a little more of him LaHair's numbers will surely come back to earth but for the moment comparing his season with one of the best starts in memory is pretty funny.

Matt Kemp AB 90 H 37 2B 4 HR 12 RBI 25 AVG .411 OBP .500 SLG .856 OPS 1.356

Bryan LaHair AB 67 H 26 2B 8 HR 7 RBI 16 AVG .388 OBP .468 SLG .821 OPS 1.289

You have to like the doubles rate.

He just needs to learn to locate it. Rivera has 1 pitch, he can put it where he wants to and when that's what makes a great pitcher, stuff means nothing if you can't locate it.

Marmol has a plus pitch, and a plus plus pitch when he's hitting his spots with that slider. His two seamer has some pretty wicked movement, needs to trust it more.

Rivera and his cutter are something special, stand alone. Although it looks like he injured his leg tonight.

I agree but I think he needs something else to go to when the slider can't be located at all and everyone is sitting on the fastball. Something like a splitter which is easier to throw with confidence and will induce ground balls or at least a swing. Or imagine how crossed up batters would be if he had a refined changeup.

He's a little old to learn control.

He's always been pretty wild, its just he used to have another 2-4 mph and a better slider.

Marmol came up through the minors as a catcher. He'll get it together. Most relievers have stretches where they look horrid.

There is no bad time to trade Marmol for the very reason you just said. If you can get him off of your books and not have to pay his salary...thats a huge win.

He doesn't repeat his mechanics. That's not hard to learn. Don't forget, he's a converted catcher.
