Foligno was definately one of them. Other noteables included Lanny McDonald (aka Loony McSphereson), Robbie Ftorek, and Stan Mikita.

I'd be willing to bet that not one of these guys ever had concussion problems.

Okay, now you got me curious on that Christian Ruutu (Ruuttu?) helmet.

Pictures anyone? I just can't remember what it was like.

...definately Denis Potvin's, which I think is the same one Foligno wore. I think I didn't like Potvin just because of his helmet. Never like Messier's either.

His hair classifies as a helmet, does it not?

The 80's / mid-90's Jofa "Alien Skull" helmet gets honorable mention. Selanne still wears a Jofa helmet, but it's the newer one that doesn't look as retarded (pretty sure anyway).

Didn't they use a Mark Messier-like helmet in the movie TRON?

Pretty stylish too.

I agree. Most comfortable helmet ever except it made you look like the freakin Great Gazoo. The butch goring was a classic. Have an old Cooper SK10 that is similar to "The Butch" its metallic gold and is great during shinny to start a few conversations.

The Old Cooper XL-7 that teams changed the front and back to match team colors back in the early 80's was horrible. A lot of junior teams wore them. They had those stupid idiot tabs on the side to adjust them and came with the built in cage for younger players. Just plain ugly.

I remember Denis Savard looked like the Great Kazoo from Fred Flintstone with his helmet on.

Phil Housely was always very funny looking also.

I was wrong about Selanne: he still wears that old "alien skull" Jofa we have mentioned. I think it's Jagr who I'm thinking of (that went from the old one to the newer variant -- has a sort of swept back cross bar thing on the top. Like a spoiler.

Craig Ramsey wore this bizarrely ugly helmet in the mid 80's. I think it was made by Cooper and was just brutal.

It certainly does. He could give Jimmy Johnson a run for his money.

Are we talking about function or style?

Cuz i think the former is more important than the latter.

I think Arturs Irbe's converted helmet is the worst. It looks like a bucket or something.
