Per CBC's Pierre Lebrun on the radio (he was at today's practice):
During the practice, Jordin Tootoo went up to Radulov and passed comments. It looked like a verbal confrontation. Radulov was visibly upset at the comments... After the incident, Lebrun got a quote from Tootoo who sort of sidestepped the issue.
Oh okay. I was mowing the lawn and listening through headphones haha guess I didn't hear about it as clearly as I thought. Him and York did discuss a situation in the interview when he was a Pred in which Jim McKenzie and Legwand were stealing chairs or something haha. Don't know how a hotel key would've had anything to do with that so I guess I didn't hear that part of it as well as I thought.
It was a confusing story.... it first came out that trotz had said it, then people retracted it.........so who knows ...
I heard Lebrun having a discussion about it live on TSN radio, so I didn't put a link. Here's another take on the incident (with link this time):
"It was interesting to note that before practice started Thursday, Radulov and Tootoo had a verbal exchange. Tootoo skated by Radulov and appeared to say something to which the Russian reacted angrily.
When asked if he had a thing with Radulov, Tootoo replied: "No, it's just part of practice. Everyone chats out there," said Tootoo with a laugh. "You guys can think all you want. Part of practice is communicating out there and that's what we did." "
It is ironic that what got Tootoo (a guy who's struggled with substance abuse) back into the lineup is two of his teammates getting wasted late into the night before a playoff game. Toots and Big Ern probably don't like that too much.
At the end of the day you ice the lineup that gives you the best chance to win. If a GM is more concerned about player value than winning hockey games, then you are in trouble.
As for Tootoo potentially going at Radulov, imagine yourself in that dressing room. You're playing the most important games of your lives and some guys aren't giving 100%. That'll piss you off no doubt. Some guys will be less vocal, but you can bet there are quite a few that don't appreciate their actions.
someone needs to change their screenname to barrytrotzsenormouscohones
bravo for trotz.
Wilson, here's your chance. Make it impossible for him to bench you.
Nobody wants to do that because everyone will be calling for his head after the next loss. Hockey fans are very much a "what have you done for me lately" crowd and a coach is only as good as his last win. He is a hero now, but wait till morning if we lose. He will be an idiot. lol
I am willing to bet he sat down with each guy on the team to get their input also and I would bet it was pretty close to unanimous from the guys playing the game that they should sit and to ice the team that got you there to begin with and gave you the 4th seed you ended up with. I commend him for it.
