Justin Schultz had to play for the Westside Warriors BCHL, as opposed to the Kelowna Rockets of the CHL in order for him to be able to go to Wisconsin. Both junior teams play within the same city, but only the Tier II program allows NCAA promotion.

NCAA players however can leave College to join CHL once they are selected in the CHL draft to teams to secure their playing rights.
I am well aware of all this information. Someone said they should allow it, and I responded to that.

Should be a fun team to watch, Lessio, Jenner, Biggs, Jenson, Laughton...if they don't go deep into the playoffs there is definitely a problem with that team. They have talent.

If people don't think there is a problem there already, they're off their nut. They had all the talent in the world up front, a decent D, and a better than average goaltender there this year, and took a dump. The coaching staff was canned for it, as well.

Defense and Goaltending (eventhough some think it was the best part) was the biggest flaw with them last season.

There was no 'go to' dman like the other teams had. We lost 3/4 of our top 4, and that seemed to affect them.

The offense didnt step up enough to offset the other flaws. plain and simple.

Tyler Biggs — the Leafs top pick in the 2011 draft — is leaving college early to jump-start his professional career.

While there is no contract on the table yet from the Maple Leafs, Biggs said he needs to come north to help his game.
I thought he had a contract...... ELC?

I think I heard that. Maybe. But the rules for CHL/NCAA teams were the same 10 years ago then they are now.

NCAA players can't sign ELC's so he didn't have one before... and the reason he doesn't have one right now is because he just left college.

It'll probably take a few months or even a year, no real urgency if he wants to go to Oshawa.

Above is the post about him having signed an ELC and the twitter account seems to be Ligit but I would think the Leafs will sign him but where he plays is the question.

Love his determination, he's doing whatever it takes to get to the big league.

One might surmise that he didn't think much of where he was playing if he's leaving it without a contract already in hand.

I support the NCAA for finesse players, or pretend PF's.

CHL is the real league for developing NHL players.

Yeah, it's not like the NCAA gave us guys like Oshie, Wheeler, Backes, Kessler, or Okposo. Clearly, those are "pretend" power forwards.

Really, ULF? Lol

I think your right ULF but on the other hand, he may be leaving his options open, or maybe the Leafs are leaving him unsigned and will evaluate him at camp next year and if he's not ready, the option of returning to school is still open.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if he were to attend camp, then he'd be breaking NCAA rules, and therefore be unable to return, would he not?

I'm not sure but I think he was at last years camp and if you notice in the picture in the article, he is wearing a Leafs uniform.

There's no right or wrong answer for NCAA vs CHL. Not every player is the same. Some respond better in different environments, and will thrive/develop better depending on the route they take.

He attended rookie camp, but not training camp.

He can go to rookie camp but has to pay his own way. Main camp starts well into the school year so it would be a challenge to go. And he'd have to pay his own way.

Anything in common with the players you listed?

Yes, maybe he's just a bad pick, getting bad advice, or his "handlers" don't think the program he's in is right? Maybe he can't manage the coursework while trying to master his hockey skills?

What school did Kovalchuk, Kopitar, Benn, Neal, Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Hartnell, Nash, Iginla go to?

If there is no correct answer, why would leaving be wrong?

So who is going to play center between Ross and Biggs?

Or maybe it is D'Amigo and Biggs with NCAA tough guy Colborne in the middle?

IMO colborne can suit there fine. He's a big body and can cycle the puck fine.

Personally I'd prefer a player like ott, gaustad, Kelly or hecht there. Maybe komarov if he comes over. A possible prospect that might fit there is Andrew cresenzi

Andrew Cresenzi - undrafted, zero offence, I'd like to think we could do better than that.

Colbourne/Biggs/Frattin or Ross?

...or Galchenyuk... now that opens things up a little. Did you see Brain Huddle released a draft list yesterday & has Gally at number 1 overall? lol
