Right now the Flyers defense is a big question. It cant hurt to have Mez back.
If our D has:

Mez from last year.
Coburn from this year.
GrossmaNN.
A 75% Timonen.

That top 4 is good enough to do something big. Just hope Timonen can get to 75%... he seems to be at 50% now, and that Mez can get to last years form.

We need a healthy Mesz back, but what I am hoping is we can get like a 2 games to zero and/or 3 games to one lead in this series. If that happens, we dont bring him back, we let him heal further and get him in the next round.

If we are in trouble in this series (and I define trouble as being tied in games after let's say the fourth game), then he gets brought in and 'tested', ie out into a game sitiation and see whether he is last yr's Mesz or horrid Mesz.

But no testing required if we take a decent series lead.

Meszaros is the key to our playoff hopes... If he comes back I feel 10x more confidant in this team. Meszaros improves our 5on5 play a lot in allowing us to have a 3rd pairing that isn't AWFUL and he has a cannon of a shot that our PP has been missing (and that was what Florida was so successful with). He can also come in on the PK and allow us to have 5 defensemen who can all contribute on the PK.

Please Mesz, come back!

Please god hope Mez comes back for Game 4. I seriously think he will make a huge difference. Especially if he replaces Lilja or Gus.

Mez won't be back. Perhaps he could rejoin if we make it to the ECF's.

Meszaros is bumped up and paired with Lilja. That either means he's on the third pairing or Lilja has been dropped to fourth.

From Sam @ Inq.:

Quote:
Based on Saturday's practice in Voorhees, it appears defenseman Andrej Meszaros will return to the lineup Sunday night in New Jersey, and that center Sean Couturier will sit out the game.

Meszaros was paired with Andreas Lilja for most of Saturday's practice; he sometimes was with Erik Gustafsson.

It appears Meszaros will be with Lilja, and that Gustafsson will be a healthy scratch.

if Mez is back, you dress 7 defenseman with Couturier out

I agree with this, particularly if the alternative is Rinaldo.

The lines listed in the article had Rinaldo in them.

Tim P./CSN...

Quote:
He had herniated disk surgery on March 21. The recovery period was 6-8 weeks. It’s been six weeks and three days now, but Meszaros doesn’t sound as if he is mentally or physically ready to take contact.

“You want to help the team, but on the other hand, you don’t want to overdo it,” Meszaros said. “I hope I still have the next 15 years in the NHL.

“It’s different. Sometimes it’s a tough decision. We’ll see how it goes over the next few days. You don’t want to risk it. Back surgery is tough. It’d different from a broken hand or finger.

“[Back] heals with muscles and tissues. The back is very different. There’s not a lot you can do about it.”

He said he has had good and bad days.

They said on WIP today that Meszaros will play tomorrow...

Take it with a grain of salt, I suppose

cant take any chances on a serious back injury Mez is trying to recover from. I think most of us want him back in there based on what we have seen from our defensive group, but if hes not ready to handle the pounding on his back hes likely he will take he shouldnt play.

Sounds like he may be able to give it a go next game. Let's get there 2-2

Yeah, I agree, we shouldn't have him in the lineup, unless he's 100% ready or at least very close to that. You especially don't want to have a guy playing that's holding up, despite this series being less physical than the one with the Pens.

Shut him down...he will not be the difference in this series. It's not worth the risk.
