Unbelievable. NBC homer Keith Jones just said Ovie was trying to defend himself when he jumped / left his feet to hit Girardi with an elbow to the head.
Agreed. I'd say one or two playoff games is about right.
He made a play for the puck, but wasn't able to corral it. Then he realized he was gonna hit Girardi, and instead of bracing himself, he popped up. I don't think he was targeting Girardi's head (like Torres did), he just happened to hit it because he popped up.
My dad was walking through the room when this idiotic discussion of the Ovie hit was occurring and as who ever was just saying he did it to protect himself my dad laughs and says "I want whatever these guys have been smoking its gotta be some good stuff"
i often jump and thrust my shoulder/elbow area towards a player's head to protect myself. not at all to harm him.
It's weird that they slow-mo replay the non-icing that lead to the goal but doesn't mention the elbow by Backstrom.
Certainly looked like something, because 99.9% of NHL players won't go down like Anisimov did on a play like that unless they were elbowed and/or hit high.
Guys I am having a hard time watching this game because I should be there....I wussed out and feel like a crappy fan. Not sure but kinda want a game six to show up.

Jeez, NBC. Don't make your bias SO OBVIOUS.
It really is Pathetic......why is NBC so anti-Rangers !!
This period can make or break the series. The rangers can absolutely put the ****in dagger into this piece of **** bandwagon organization by scoring a few in the 3rd and winning this game decisively. Do it now. Bring it back to MSG up 3-1.
Make their garbage fanbase suffer and cry. Take it to them hard. No mercy. Let's do this.

Come on now. Def a high hit and leaving the feet abit but no elbow.
i think the biggest thing about that hit was the puck was not played, ov bascially said forget the puck i'm hitting him...and left his feet, and hit his head...

WHAT!!!
Ovechkin still could have played the puck, instead he made a bee-line charge at Girardi and jumped to follow through on a hit.
