He averaged 7:28 minutes per game, pretty much all of which was even strength. That's enough time to get in there and skate hard, get in some big clean checks on the likes of Kovy and Parise, forecheck and backcheck with tenacity...I believe Giroux commented during the season how what Zac brings helps the team...and it can...he may get a penalty...hopefully it's fairly contained and things don't go too far. He's played plenty of games where he's been on that edge but refrained from going over it...no reason to think he can't do that here.
A couple weeks ago, Giroux commented on how good Pavel Kubina is. Would you like to increase Kubina's role right now?
I wonder in 3 years time if the bruins will be saying the same thing about couturier.
Not the same situation, I think.
The Jets decided that they wanted a big center, and picked Schiefle over Couturier. That's what will be interesting in the future.
The Flyers took the higher rated player, who happened to be a center. But by most expert accounts, he was the consensus highest rated player left. Could Hamilton end up making that decision look bad? Maybe, but it won't be "just" the Flyers who passed on him at that point.
