This isn't like Bowman trading for Leddy with Barker going to Wild ,, That you can call a steal completely with Leddy nearly 40 pt PMD at 20 yrs old and Barker bought out and a fringe NHLer at this point
Fair enough. In reality, hawks won the cup and will gladly take the circumstances of that trade 10 times out of 10 considering the win.

Yah the barker deal was pretty rough. I don't think anyone expected Leddy to be so good so fast but hawks will take it. Great move. Even Kim Johnsson in that trade, so brutal.

Yeah people forget about Kim J ,, Sad his career ended like it did

Could have helped the Hawks big in playoffs that year (of course they won cup so it didn't matter in end)

Barker is gonna have trouble finding an NHL contract soon ,, Guy is absolute waste

I think Barker will be one of those guys bouncing around on 1 year deals like beniot pouliot. Talent is there and he's had some good years but people understand the situation. Maybe a team that can afford to take a chance will sign him and not really rely on him.

True story. RT @walsha Rick Dudley is one of the most astute talent evaluators in the NHL today. A proven winner. Mtl will be in great shape

So much love for Montreal...

Some search for the thread about Gauthier becoming GM and see if there's as much love.

I hope Bergevin/Dudley don't become a ****in' Gauthier.

Rick Dudley was man who promoted Trevor Timmins to head scout in Ottawa. This should be good news for Timmins #habs

I can't blame Burke in the slightest for wanting to keep Dudley till after the draft. They're picking right after us in every round, after all. But I'm ecstatic to see him coming to Montreal and doubt any compensation is required. He's got a contractual out, has only been there this past season, and is at best the #3 guy in their front office, more likely #4 behind Burke, Nonis and Poulin. Of course he's going to move on.

Fantastic add to our front office, he brings a lot more than just being a great talent evaluator. The guy's been a GM four times, he's got a lot of experience Bergevin lacks, especially in terms of how a variety of orgs work. It's not a done deal but if TSN's got it, I'm expecting it to be real. Bergevin and Dudley create a very strong tandem at the top, and with Timmins kept we should have great player development to go with astute picks on draft day. Dudley's already shown he works well with both Bergevin and Timmins.

GOD it would be nice to have an outstanding GM. The resources at his disposal are, next to NY and maybe Phily, pretty much as good as it gets.

I'd feel extra comfortable at the Draft with Bergevin, Timmins and Dudley.

Great news! If Vigneault or Quenneville become available, it would be a very good turn around from last season.

As I said in post 24, Dudley thinks Timmins eye for talent is elite in the NHL.

Will this board crash if we get Evgeny Artyukhin?

I just hope we don't got to give up anything to Leafs...

The odds of finding a player who can be as good as Ladd with an early 2nd are pretty low. Clendening would have to become at least a #4 defenceman who produces a lot of points to have the trade go from steal to a fair deal.

You are no longer allowed to ask for compensation for losing front office people. So the Leafs will get nothing.

Just like we got nothing from Tampa for losing Boucher and Brisebois.

One non-move by Dudley:

He was offered Halak for Cormier +. Dudley wasn't willing to move Cormier.

Well, I liked his moves as Atlanta GM, but reading Willis's article now has me very worried. Picking a guy who's been quoted as saying "he'd be the anti-Moneyball" strikes me as exactly the wrong kind of philosophy the Habs should adopt.

Well that's good....sometime GM's will throw in extra on a next trade if one takes place down the road.

Arthyukin was drafted by Dudley...lol

How so? I think it's fine to have a pure talent evaluator. I also wouldn't mind if habs had another moneyball type of director/advisor as well. I think stats only tell some of the story anyway and talent and character arent seen with stats. That doesn't mean the two scenarios are mutually exclusive. You can have multiple forms of information and stick to your philosophy. Extra info is never a bad thing.

Depends upon who they hire for a coach.

Between that, and his history of rushing teenagers into the NHL, I'd be upset if he was GM... but as assistant, I have some faith that he'll be used for his strengths, and not to decide the greater philosophies of the organization. I hope, anyway.
