Edmonton trades the 1st overall to NYI and gets the NYI's 1st, 2nd and the option to switch 1st in 2013 or 2014.

NYI will not trade any of it's youth, so the best you could do is get picks. They are desperate to get a alstar like Yakupov to bring in the fans and a winger to play with Tavares.

I believe NYI will be a lottery pick team in 2013, and with the option to switch 1st Edmonton might have a shot at Nathan Mackinnon.

I don't know.

2012 1st (4th OA) + 2012 2nd (34th overall) + de Haan would seem a pretty significant package--particularly when you look at past comparables.

For example, in 2003: the Florida Panthers trade the 1st OA (Marc-Andre Fleury) and a 3rd and 73rd to the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 3rd OA (Nathan Horton), a late 2nd, and Mikael Samuelsson, then a rather unimpressive prospect.

Snow's not doing his job, if he's not talking to every team in the top 10.

According to different media sources,he's kicked the tires on moving his lottery pick in the past 3 drafts.

About a week ago,I read a Tambellini interview, where he talked about getting a good (established ) player + good pick for his first overall.I posted the trades scenerios I thought realistic ,involving the Oilers and the teams drafting 2nd-5th overall:

Oilers ask for Johanson+ 2nd overall.
Oilers ask for Subban + 3rd overall.Habs pass,offer Gorges + 3rd overall.
Oilers ask for Harmonic + 4th over.NYI pass,offer De Haan + 4th overall.
Oilers ask for Gardiner +5th overall.Burkes pushes Schenn + 5th overal.

First one is too much from CBJ and the rest of them suck for the Oilers.

Again, look at the 2003 draft, which is the most recent case in which the 1st was moved. The packages you suggest are massively out of line with that precedent--which was basically the 1st, a 2nd, and a B-level prospect to move up two spots.

Each draft is different, and the value of the 1st overall is hard to generalize, but none of the packages you suggest really fits except, maybe, the NYI.

isles 1st, and 2nd would be more than enough to move up to #1 from the 4 spot.

...it also makes the most sense, since the Isles would be the ideal fit for him playing on Tavares's wing.

No he wouldn't. Oilers have Smid, Schultz, and Musil in the system who are all similar defencemen to Gorges.

Isles fans didn't flock to fill the arena when Tavares was drafted and they won't flock to see Nail.So long as the owner is using salary cap tricks and spending several million, below the cap floor in actual salary, disgusted fans will stay home.

As for the Isles 2013 first rounder. Not available.Snow is losing 4 vets on defense, to unrestritcted free agency.Isles have 4 pmd knocking on the door at Bridgeport.Couple of those kids will be on the NYI roster.Murray from this draft is a possibility. The ufa market is weak.

No 2012 high lottery team, will trade their 2013 1st before the 2012-2013 season has even started. You think teams around the league haven't paid attention to the Kessel trade?

Either way, wouldn't this make a little more sense after the combine when teams have had their final meetings and interviewed the players they want?

Whatever, I'll bite for the sake of playing along.....

To NYI: 1st overall, Gagner

To EDM: 4th overall, NYI 2013 1st
LOL ...replace the 2013 1st, for the 2012 2nd else replace Gagner for Hall, and then it would work. (Milbury is not the Isles GM any more)

So two 1st overall picks for a 4th overall and a 2nd rounder?

Milbury isn't the Oilers GM either.

Well, it's implied that the Oilers would take Murray at #4 unless he's gone. And considering my post, that would make Hamonic equal to the #4 pick. Now tell me, why would you trade two #4 picks for Yakupov.

I take this rumor with a grain of salt, until someone credible reports it.

And I don't mean ESPN,Sportsnet or Yahoo picking up Eklund's rumor.I'm still checking my phone for updates on his reported Nash to NYI deal.

I'm pretty sure most teams kick the tires on how "available" the 1st overall pick is. Sounds like Eklund is just sensationalizing something that is commonplace.

I think it's a bit too early to be chalking up Ryan Murray as 'dreaming to be as good as Hamonic'. He is very overrated from what I've read the past offseason.

Well, what if Garth is trying to get Yakupov AND either one of Murray or Dumba, assuming they are there.

To EDM:
Calvin De Haan
Casey Cizikas
NYI 2nd

To NYI:
1st overall
