Shooting High on Lundqvist's Glove Hand

Anyone noticing a pattern of most of these Capitals goals are coming on high shots?

They have been around Lundqvist's glove hand and are high up...I think the Capitals are following the scouting report on Lundqvist and just peppering him high up.

Not sure what Henrik can do, but that was always a concern with him when goals started going on...

I hope Lundqvist finds a way to fix it the rest of the way

High glove has always been his weakness.

Don't see this. The first goal the other day was off his glove. The other 2 were stick side.

High glove is probably the toughest save to make for any butterfly goalie. The fact that more goals go in that way is to be expected.

He just sucked ass in game 4, that's pretty much it. That will be corrected.

The score would have been 6-2 Washington without Hank. Our first period was shocking.

In the postgame he said that he didnt see the puck on two of the goals.

Glove high or not, you still need a near perfect shot to beat him.

I think the strategy has been to shoot high, period, not necessarily just glove side high. That said, Hank's awkward stab at Ovechkin's shot with his glove hand on the first goal could change that!

Jeez, that was strange...

Stating the Caps are shooting high means the sky is falling now?

So, because Hank allows one softie after about 10 playoff games, his glove is a problem? You people are unreal. I was to respond to the person saying "Hank sucked ass in game 4", but then realized I already had him on ignore after I logged in.

Imagine if the rest of the players on this team had to perform up to the standards we expect from him.

He made the thread because the Caps seem to be shooting high. Not sure why this is an issue for you.

So has every team that has faced us for the past 7 years and so do we. That's hardly thread worthy. While the TS might want to genuinely discuss it, it's more of an open invitation for trolls and Hank haters.

I agree with your last statement, but not the first. The other reason teams are shooting high is because this year and last the Rangers have gone down to block so many shots teams have to shoot high.

Even Ovechkin's goal on Saturday, the defense took away the lower half of the net.

So you've completely missed the reform of goaltending? Butterfly goalies are playing for a reason, they shut down the bottom half of the net. That teams are more prone to block shots have little to do with the shot selection, shots have a harder time to get through, but it's still more of the same old story.

Hank has been playing more and more of a hybrid style each year, trying to stand upright longer on shots and be more aggressive with his glove, because of the fact that opponents try to shoot high. Last game, it burned him, but most of the time it has paid off.

High glove under the cross bar is a tough save for any goalie.

Didnt like the Ovechkin or Green goals, but thats assessment is way off-base. How about the other incredible saves he did make? Name the one on Ovechkin early and the breakaway by Backstrom in the 3rd?

No, but thanks for being condescending about it...

If you think players going down to block shots don't make the offense shoot high pretty often...I'll just respectfully disagree with you on that one.

you are both right.

goalies like Hank and Quick have been forcing shooters to aim at the upper half of the net.

The flip side to that is the way the Rangers play (dropping to block shots) amplifies the shoot high mentality that teams have when they face the Rangers and Kings specifically.

To the extent that teams are already looking high, there is truth to that.

To the extent that the Rangers enhance that mindset, there is truth to that as well.

Nothing new. Going high on Hank has been the scouting report for years now. At least this season he's been catching pucks, as opposed to previously where he treated his glove as a second blocker just to knock pucks out of the air with.
