Giroux only hit the head. Ovi hit body and head.

Well "Claude Giroux" is trending on twitter.

NHL must be stoked - good publicity, people caring about the NHL at 3 pm on a Monday.

It has always been relevant. Intent matters, and intent is judged based, in part, on what happens previously in the game.

Giroux was in the wrong. This is the right decision. It serves to shed light on the arbitrariness of the league's other decisions--Weber, Malkin, Neal, etc.--but it is hard to argue with this one, it really is. Giroux clearly was angry. He clearly targeted the head.

Whatever. This team didn't look like it had a plan to beat the Devils with Giroux. Maybe they will come up with one without it.

But they aren't, which is the problem.

Still hit the head after leaping off the ice. Was he leaping to hit the guys shoulder?

i am not ticked off that he got the game
i'm ticked off that others have done worse and didn't even receive a hearing
that and this is a complete joke
if this was crosby or malkin, it would have been rolled under the carpet
(as it clearly was in the last round with malkin)

My only beef is that an illegal hit is clearly dependent on who is delivering it.

so it took pittsburg what? 3 illegal hits and some injuries to get 1 game suspension, how much did it take to giroux?. i say disgrace
i mean ye these hits shouldn't be in game, but compared to pittsburg meter, its disgrace.

No problem with the suspension itself as it is based on the rules. G was frustrated and went for the head. Not ok.

I just don't get how the whole process of decision making works @ player safety comittee. How do Weber, Malkin and the likes get away with similar cheapshots when clearly intending to injure the opponent?

This is ridiculous! There should be some kind of mechanism where teams or press or a comittee of retired players can officially file complaints/questions/applications based on such incidents and insist on Shanahan to answer and explain why there was no hearing nor suspension in a particular case.
Right now everybody is getting a notion of pretty arbitrary exercise of authority.

Shannahan is a joke. Should he be suspended probably, but from what we've seen from these playoffs it shouldnt have been.

Shanahan is a joke, we agree. This is not a suspendable offense, it was an accidental hit to the head caused by the fact Zubrus tried to grab Giroux's arm and missed. He threw himself off balance trying to obstruct Giroux, or he probably wouldn't have been hit at all.

What a farce. Oh well, the boycott is on. F the NHL.

Did anyone catch the episode of Sherlock last night, amazing.....

Thanx shanny even though u ****ed up u woke us up .We should trade for malkin cause doesnt matter what he does how many times he goes for someones head he never gets suspended then agian if he played for us he proably would.

Uh, what?

Good on a lot of you Flyers fans by the way for understanding Shanahan's ruling...even the ones who don't agree, most of you are better about it than my fellow Bruins fans usually are.

This team won't lose tomorrow. They all respect G too much to lose tomorrow's game.

Imagine if you're G and your team is eliminated from the SC playoffs because of one bad play you made? He is so competitive and would be so mad at himself. The team won't let that happen.

If they are going to lose, Giroux will be in the lineup to do everything he can to stop that from happening.

I know we lost him for Game 5, but maybe a change like this might charge up the team?

Its not about them not playing hard, its about them not having enough defensive awareness as a team. This suspension doesn't really change that however.
