Now im sure if Grigs would be a bad choice...im still thinking that Galchenyuk has a higher ceiling..
If we somehow luck into Yakupov, I'll be thrilled beyond belief because he's like Kessel only with bite to his game.
If we draft Galchenyuk, I'll be ecstatic as you may have guessed.
If we draft Grigorenko, I'll be happy because he remains a mammoth talent with a terrific brain and I think we'll have enough guys up who really care at the wing position (Pacioretty, Gallagher, Leblanc, etc) to makeup for his possible ''baggage''.
If we draft Forsberg, I'll be pleased with it because you know the guy who recommended Lidstrom and Lundqvist (Rockstrom) would have had a huge say.
If we draft Murray or Dumba, I'll look forward to having an excellent foursome of young defenders to build around, while also immediately being on board with a scenario where we acquire Schenn or Couturier from Philly in a year or two for one of them.
Any other pick at #3 would be bad, for the love of god trade down if for some reason Teravainen-Rielly-Trouba is our guy.
The combine list contains all the names yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean the players are going to be participating. ( ref. Grigorenko with mono )
You know there's a good possibility that this galchenyuk would have been first if he hadn't been injured. He sounds like such a good kid and I didn't realize he was an ohl first pick. He's got good size and I think in the nhl he'll be better than yakupov. He just sounds like he's got such a good head on his shoulders. I would be happy with either of the 3 big forwards, but especially with this kid.
Besides, I think in this year's draft there are like six or seven top guys that can go anywhere from 1-7, so it really breaks down to the fact of which team is looking for what type of player so it's all up to the scouts and GMs now.
I wouldn't mind. If Timmins feels say the #8 overall can get a player he likes better than most of the other crop and he gets say another 1st in the process, then I'll live with it as long as it's based on Timmins list.
For instance. If say the Ducks feel they can get their guy at 3rd and not 6th. I'd trade down(again based on Timmins list) and get another 2nd or so in process(36th overall).
After, if a team like washington was interested in the 6th, I'd trade it for their 11th and 16th.
The result would leave us with this in top 2 rounds:

Its possible...but what I'm trying to say is this draft is weak. We should look to trade up and get another first. I don't see a 2nd rounder or 3rd and beyond making the team. This draft year reminds me of 1999 Entry draft.
I think the top 5 at the draft could go like this:
Yakopov - top pick. Hard not to draft him at #1
Galchenyuk - Columbus if they keep the pick probably won't want a Russian IMO. Galy is their best choice for a centre and he's American!
Grigs - big talented centre, just what they've been looking for for years
Murray - Defense really falls off for the islanders and Murray is a steady presence they can rely on for years
Forsberg - north south skater, drives hard to the net. A very Burke type player
I could see Murray land in the 2 spot but I don't think that's likely. Hard to draft a guy like Murray at number two. He should be a great defender for years, he's just not sexy and Columbus needs sexy and I doubt Edmonton forfeits Yakopov for Murray.

If anyone knows how to get archived junior games as bundles instead of buying each of them for ~3.50? that would be greatly appreciated.
1. RW Nail Yakupov. BPA. Would slot in right away on a scoring line, perhaps with Pleks?
2. D Ryan Murray. Not a need, but the definitive #2 prospect, and there is no way in hell I'd let him slip past us. Even if we are set on our D, we should be able to flip Ryan Murray for something special.
3. C Mikhail Grigorenko. 1 year ago he would have been a dream come true. The NA adjustment, mono, a bum ankle, and general over analysis has caused him to lose his luster in the eyes of many fans, but if their is one guy in this draft who could be a 100 point player in this draft, it's Grigo.
4. RW Filip Forsberg. Last year many were saying he was a superior prospect to Landeskog, and Landeskog looks like a franchise player in Colorado. Very Raw, but superstar upside
5. C Alex Galchenyuk. A complete player, but might be more of a very good player than a great one. Also coming off a serious knee injury. If TT likes his upside, consider me game.

RW Sebastian Collberg. If we were to trade down out of the top 10 for a pick next year or something or perhaps a roster piece, I'd like to see us target Collberg. Superior speed and skill and plays with jam.
Do you guys think Murray is a lock for the NHL next season, since he's already playing with the big guys in an international competition (in a limited role, but still).
Also, do you think he's a good comparable to Erik Johnson?
