That's good; hopefully AV won't be hesitant in matching him up with some tougher competition in comparison to Hodgson's butter-soft minutes.
I don't think it's a big deal if they get him playing soft minutes. What's important is that he can handle the type of minutes he's given and that was not the case with Hodgson a lot of the time.
This guy's prime years are basically being wasted away by injuries. After hearing this, I really hope Gillis considers moving him. When he comes back in November he's going to be a step behind again because of no offseason working out or training camp, and it will be the exact same story as last season. Best thing for him and the team is to trade him so he can have success in a 3rd line role somewhere else where the pressure won't be on him to perform at a 2nd line C role, which I believe is beyond his ability as a player now.
“After consultation with our team physicians following the playoffs, it was deemed that Ryan would require a procedure on his hip,” said President and General Manager, Mike Gillis. “We expect a full recovery and determined this procedure would best serve both Ryan and the team’s long term goals.”

How many of you now feel bad for ripping him to pieces during the playoffs? *slowly raises hand*
Problem is, as others have noted, he isn't often that healthy for the post-season (when the team really needs him). Probably has far too many responsibilities (which Gillis at least tried to address by acquiring Paulsson) that just wear his body down over the course of a long regular season.
But if he comes back after hes fully healed, what will his excuse be next season when he doesnt do well or gets shut down in a playoff series? Seems like every year we have to make excuses for losing.

If he comes back fully healed he wont stay healthy...the way he plays he's always getting hurt. You just have to watch him from shift to shift...he's always grimacing in pain about something. He gives 110% but his body has trouble with the punishment. He (and the team) would be better off playing a smarter 90% than the reckless 110%.
Warriors are often noted for bravery, but also for having a lack of intelligence. I'm not sure how much credit should be heaped on a guy who dragged down our 2nd line by playing hurt for several months.
Most likely the Detroit game where Kronwall hit him with his patented butt check.
I have no idea the actual date or who we were playing but I think it may have happened during one game when he hopped over a player around the net & went flying shoulder first into the end boards. I remember it looked pretty bad at the time. However the Kronwall Hit does make a lot of sense too & explains why Kesler was SO angry after it & challenged him to a fight.
