Just thought I'd give my two cents, but sorry that is all on Bryz, he shoots it INTO Clarkson, could've done anything else except that.

and why, exactly, would Timonen give it to Bryz under pressure, when Bryz is not a good puck handler?

CBC blamed Timonen almost exclusively for that goal. NHL defenseman Galley said 'gotta put it behind the net, or up the boards, knowing how Bryz is'

Maybe the BUM is trying something new.

Poo away the first 20 and be strong in the following 40?

Terrible goal by Bryzgalov, BUT also a really bad play by Timonen. And I actually don't think the backpass in general is terrible in and of itself, but when you've been teammates for a year and you know how badly someone handles the puck, you just don't throw it to him in a high-pressure situation.

Having said that, Bryzgalov's blunder still trumps Timonen's play by far. In law, you have something called a broken chain of causation, and I think this concept can be applied here. Sure, Timonen's play was bad, but ultimately you can't fault him for the goal, because what Bryz pulled off completely absolved him.

My guess is that Timonen showed he had a bit of confidence in Bryz, and Bryz quickly destroyed that.

lol well that just settles it

Keep the puck away from Bryz so he can be an elite goalie.

All these years, I have never seen the D take the blame for dropping the puck back to the G WHO HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO GET RID OF IT.

you guys do realize that Bryzgalov could've covered it, right? Timonen passed it back to him while he was under pressure and wanted him to cover the puck. it's a very common play. that was 100% Bryzgalov's fault. to say it's 50% Timonen's fault is hysterical. you're delusional.

So your defence for Bryz is that Timonen should have known how stupid he is???

Anybody know any mobsters that could "take care of" Bryz? I'm beginning to dread having to watch this malarkey for 8 more seasons.

He could have, certainly. He also could have played it behind his net, shot it to the boards opposite Clarkson. A billion things. Instead he shamed the team.

i'll add: IN THE PLAYOFFS, POSSIBLE ELIMINATION GAME.

agreed. thats why he gets 50% of the blame & Bryz gets 50% for not covering it.

@ blaming Timonen. This wasn't the first time a puck has been passed back to Bryz like that.

I disagree wholeheartedly with Garry Galley's commentary, too. Timonen didn't blindly throw the puck up the boards; I'd say that's a good decision. Bryz had plenty of time to do anything he wanted with that puck.

To clarify, I don't agree with the 50 - 50 split, and had you quoted the entire post, you would've seen why not.

One talking head of many blames Timonen, so now it's 50/50. Nice.

no problem. we can disagree on the %. i'm not offended. but when a NHL defenseman blames Timonen [i'd say about 85%], me blaming him 50% doesn't seem so far fetched.

he is the only former NHL defenseman on the CBC panel, to my knowledge.

100% on bryz. That was insanely bad. Let's see how he recovers. But he also played the deflection terribly too. Should have been challenging the shooter more. Goalie 101, you know he's not passing it, so you challenger the shooter. Yes it was deflected and not an easy save, but if he challenges the shooter, pretty elementary.
