Offseason Thread 2012

Might as well get it started. The team performed better than most expected but still had some major struggles. Gotta figure out whats wrong with the goalie and hope he plays better next season, and we got to rework the defense. Hope we take a solid player in the draft.

They exceeded my expectations this year. I expected us to barely make the playoffs, and a 1st round exit.

Now we can fine tune the team... work on defense.

The goalie kept them in every game this past series. The ability to move the puck from the backend and score against good defensive teams was their downfall.

Yea, that is why I avoided mentioning goaltending... we are stuck with Bryz...not that he played badly, he kept us in a lot of games.

well, if we are stuck with bryz for next 9 years, they had better find them selves some good defensiean (that aren't afraid to block shots) to maked him look better than he has
watching him move side to side was painful
its like he was moving in water or quicksand

We just were banged up, outplayed and it all started to go to our heads. We it felt like we were really out of gas after the first game. I expect a kickass line up next year and healthy too.

Bah not ready for hockey sabbatical yet. Yeah let Carle walk and get paid. I'm not really interested in bringing Jagr back. He's def slowed down even when healthy, which he is only good for half a season. When he gets banged up, he really slows down. Unless we're to sign him in January, he can't survive the grind of a season.

I didn't think we'd do as good as we did this year, I figured we'd battle for 8th in the East. If we can avoid mass sophomore slumps, we have a lot of tools use going in the right direction.

Our youngsters need to go to Gary Robert's camp, do some hardcore training

I think so, it actually wouldn't surprise me to see him retire, he took one hell of a pounding this year

I think this seems to be getting lost to a lot of people. If you had told me at the beginning of the season we get to the 2nd round of the playoffs, I'd have called that a good season. Honestly it was a flip of the coin we'd even make the playoffs.

Btw, anyone else kinda hoping Kimmo decides to call it quits this offseason? Its painfully obvious the guy just can't play a full season anymore. This is two years in a row he's been more or less worthless in the playoffs. That 6.3 mill cap hit could go a long way toward revamping a d-core in desperate need of revamping.

Injuries, Rookies and Bryzaster is how I will remember this year.

Bryz was good this series and better in March, but every non-Flyer fan I talk to sees the obvious. He is not the answer. 8 more years.

Bye Carle. Goodbye. Take Jagr with you.

JVR showed in one game what he did in last year's playoffs and mailed in the rest. I question his heart.

Couturier was not the same after the injury, but the future looks bright.

Great season by Giroux. I have to admit, I think his defensive game is a little overrated. He does well shorthanded, but that is it IMO. (That opinion will not be popular!)

You know, before the season started, if you told me we would finish 4th in the East, beat the Penguins in the first round, and lose to the Devils in the second round, I would have been pretty happy about the season overall.

However, losing to the Devils the way we did definitely sours it a little. Even though the score may have been close, we were thoroughly outplayed and out coached from game 3 and on. That injury list that will come out in the next few days better be really long, because there are a lot of players who seemed disappeared during this series.

1) Hire a coach who will play the most boring strict defensive system
2) Clone Max Talbot
3) ???????????
4) Profit a Stanley Cup

I think JvR must have reinjured his foot at one point. He had the good first game, yes, CBC showed him walking to the arena with a noticeble limp, left foot was wearing a sandal while the other was in a dress shoe. I don't claim to know what passes for fashion amongst the kids these days, but that looks to me like injury

I have a feeling at least half the team is going to have reported injuries and/or surgeries.
