Marcel Noebels had a goal in each of the last two playoff games as Portland advanced to the WHL finals.

RT @euroflyers: Niko Hovinen was runner up for the Urpo Ylönen trophy given for best goalie in the SM-Liiga.

Other winners over the last 15 or so years: Tim Thomas, Miikka Kiprusoff, Kari Lehtonen, Nicklas Backstrom. All before the lockout though, no one notable since then.

Well, only 45 days until the draft.

Is anyone able to give me a run down or point me in the right direction to a guide on who some of the available defensemen will be around where we pick and a brief description of them?

There a bunch of mock drafts out there that have some information like:

http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/mock-draft/2012/

Craig is hated by many, loved by some, but for the most part he can get some of the players who drops right (he called Couturier @ #8).

The hockey writers are decent:

Plus, THN's draft preview will probably be out any day now.

Trading away that 2nd for Kubina really smarts. We could have had two picks in the top 55 and come away with 2 blue line prospects. I think Holmgren is going to have to be able to find a couple of UDFA that he is known for.

Man, that trade is unspeakably bad. Did Kubina even have a single good game for us? Just ****ing threw picks away. At least the Grossman deal worked out.

That Grossman Deal saved our season. He has been very good for us and being able to extend him makes it even better in my eyes.

Any way we could try to trade to go higher in the 1st round?

I dont think its really needed. There will be some solid defenders around 23. Pouliot, Finn, Lindholm, Bystrom, Maata.

The flyers could do anything. I could see them trade the pick for immediate help. I could see them trade to get out of the first round and add more picks.

I think this is a draft after the top 10, 11-50 there is similar in talent.

Just keep in mind whoever we draft , they won't make an impact for at least 3-4 years. That is why i say draft BPA and not for need, because we dont know what the future will hold.

You think Finn will be there? That'll be great. What about Skjei? Koekkoek? Are they rising or falling?

And yes the Kubina deal backfired, hated the idea from the start. Hopefully we'll be able to shift some pieces around and re-acquire a 2nd round pick or something.

If you are saying that 11-50 have similar talent, do you think we should try to trade off Bob, Carle's rights and Gus to help pick up a couple second rounders (hopefully high ones)?

From what I can tell though, this may be one of the craziest 1st and 2nd rounds in the draft in a long time, because I'm not really sure what is going to be picked after 10.

Noebels with a goal and an assist in the losing effort tonight. Good stuff.

Would we really have to wait 3 or 4 years for Finn, Koekkoek, Maatta or Skjei to play in the NHL?

no, but to make an impact in the nhl? id say 4 years.

The very good ones can start making an impact around 2 years. Like OEL, Karlsson, zel zotto, mcdonough.

either way, it will take time. and who knows what we will do in the future.

McDonagh took a bit. He really wasn't effective until this season. And now he's 22, so about 3 or 4 years for him as well. OEL and Karlsson are kind of up there, like very up there. Pietrangelo wasn't effective till last season, so about 3 years, and he's INSANELY good.

Yeah, its really a bad sign when a Dman hits 22-23 and they still havent come around. Erik Johnson of course comes to mind.

Hopefully Hedman starts making more of an impact this year. But yeah at the top of the draft a dman should usually start producing by the time they are 20. However we dont have to worry about that since we are not going to be able to get one of those top guys.

Would the ones I mentioned probably have a messed up development if we brought them in right away like Couts (not saying Couts has a messed up development, I'm just saying start right after being drafted)?

I have no clue. And to be honest there really is no right or wrong answer in that regard. Everything is hindsight. I think in those instances there is a line between being exposed to the speed and style of the game....which is the only way you can adapt and learn. But the other side is the self doubt/ and insurmountable feeling that can come with basically a high schooler playing against grown men.

id say for foreign players the adjustment is two fold, since there is a huge cultural change as well as playing a new style. That is why i was so impressed with BOB last year to be honest. For NA players the adjustment is not quite as stark.

Also couts had the benefit of being able to live with Briere who is obviously a great influence on him in a variety of ways.

If the Caps win, we get a one spot higher draft pick. Go Caps!

I just want a great supply of D-men. We should really try to trade for 2nd rounders, high ones. The Lightning have 2 2nd rounders (37 and 40). Any way we would could pry them from them? Or go down a bit, trade Bob for a 2nd rounder (37) to the Bolts and possibly Gus and a 3rd for Buffalo's 2nd (42)?

24 if Rags win, 23 if Caps win. Preds and Blues are after us, as would be the final four.

You know id love to see us trade the pick as well, but id like to see them trade it for a future first if possible.

I think a team like the rangers who are a couple of injuries away from really falling hard could be a great team to trade with if possible. I could see them drafting in the top 10 next year.
