Future of Kimmo Timonen? Mounting injuries and a continued downturn in ability as seasons progress.
Don't get me wrong, Timonen was an excellent defenseman. However, beginning last year, he's noticeably hit the wall and is clearly at the end of the line.
Nashville will take him back. We aren't concerned of his cap hit (actual pay is only 3m).
And we'll likely trade you Suter's rights... but could be a big bidding war with Pittsburgh. Got to keep him out of Detroit though.
If you trade a Kimmo Timonen - even the current version of Kimmo Timonen - for someone's rights - it better be along with a handshake and a contract that is being signed simultaneously to the trade going through.
You trade Ryan Parent for someone's rights, not Timonen.
Kimmo has said he thinks he has a few years left. No doubt he's old. We paid him knowing that. The minutes do need to be cut down. One of the benefits of having Pronger was that Kimmo wouldn't have to kill himself on a nightly basis, and that went out the window when Pronger got hurt. Having Grossmann for a whole season next year will help. I don't see him wanting to make a move though, he's still a 20 minute player. He's still one of the top 20 defensemen in the league. He is the leader so long as Pronger is out of the picture (those who are pining for Giroux to wear the C, it's not time yet). He's not a spare part.
There are few players I feel for more than Kimmo, he has the heart of a warrior and deserves a Cup. I saw a pic of him on Facebook on the bench just devastated with Giroux putting his hand on his shoulder.
Limit his minutes, keep him on the roster. Wish we could get 3 more out of him.
Here's a crappy version of the pic:

Kimmo is the man, but his contract limits what we can do this off season. It is in the best intrest of the team if he retires.
He has been a flyer legend but looking back on it, he has broken down at the end of just about every freaking season we have had him. As great as he is, he is unable to sustain that level of excellence when needed most....during the playoffs.

He was playing hurt, I think ever since the Pens series.
I want Kimmo back. Dude is a ****ing warrior and one of the more underappreciated defenseman we have had around here in a long time. Get him some help. He can still be effective so long as we dont kill him playing 23 or more minutes a night.
I want him back and I want him to be the Captian.

broken down cause of over use and the fact we have too many injuries. underappreciated like a guy like desjardins. he is a warrior!i rather have him back then lilja, carle, kubina or say jvr or danny b no way those two guys should make more than g

Yep, this. We have overplayed him, we need to sign some better D men in this offseason so we can keep Kimmo's minutes down.

No way is Kimmo underrated. He is our highest paid player and unquestionable leader in the locker room. He is well respected throughout the league and his impact on the flyers can't be overstated.
Top defenseman log huge minutes throught a season, and didnt lean on kimmo as much as you think this year. coburn and Carle really picked up the minutes in the playoffs this year.
When we got Kimmo he was no spring chicken and now he is a shade of his former self. All year he has been susceptible to fast players and he just no longer able to keep up. It happens.
At some point you have to be able to separate the emotional attachment you have to a player with the reality of his performance.
I've always liked that guy's game from the Nashville years, and I felt AWFUL for him listening to his postgame comments about how he's "running out of chances" due to his age.

its the common statement of the older guys of the flyers every year. running out of time. jr, desjardins, primeau, sad to see these guys not get to the pinnacle. wish recchi could of won one here too.
Game 4, after the third goal was scored, they showed a pic of Bryz just look devastated, but Timonen's whole heart was on his face. You could tell he knew possibly his last chance at a cup was slipping away.
I really want him back next year. Even if round 2 Timonen is here to stay, I say place him on the second or third pairing.
Suter - Coburn
Grossman - Mezaros
Timonen - MAB
