Sign Suter now. Wait for Timonen to retire next year. Sign Weber then.
See. Simple.
I love getting delusional after being knocked out of the postseason. In my mind, we have already won the Cup next year (even if Bryz scores one goal per game against himself).
i think if the flyers want webber they will give jvr, coburn and two first round picks for webber and sign a cheaper scoring defensemen and a good winger that's a shooter to replace jagr.
I think Souray would come cheap, he's not top 4 worthy but would be that big heavy shot we need. Other than him(and obviously Shultz) I think the rest will be overpaid or not worth it.

coburn-grossman
timonen-mez
Souray-MAB
lilja
Too much required of the top-4, in my opinion. And when an injury strikes, we're screwed.
MAB can bring a decent shot from the point, if he makes the squad. Souray really doesn't add much, IMO. Rather sign someone like Jackman who can anchor a 3rd pairing or play top-4 minutes without a defensive drop off.

We are not trading coburn. That would be subtraction from an area of weakness.

Jackman is a decent fallback plan. Our problem is WR have a number of 3-4s already and a bunch of 4-6s. We need a 1/2.
If I'm this Shultz kid, I might wait to sign depending on the CBA talks....he might get paid more and have earlier UFA status.
But, I'm sending whoever I can to talk to the kid...

I agree, but ain't nobody on that list a 1/2.
Schultz is a nice prospect, but literally all 30 teams will be after him, and there's no bidding war to be won. It is his choice, and I'm not overly optimistic.
Could Shultz step in and fill a top 4 role? I honestly haven't seen him play but I know the hype surrounding him. If the Flyers could promise him top 4 minutes, on a championship contender team, I wonder if that could entice him.

There isn't really a bidding war now, because there is a max he can get (and he will get that). The Flyers are a premier destination in the NHL. Always competitive, fans fill the stadium, guys get paid here, ect.
Unless he has his mind set on playing somewhere else (a hamhuis) we have a chance.
If I were a player in his situation I'd want NHL playing time, money, and a winning team. We can offer all that.
I'd never go somewhere like EDM or TOR as they are today if I had a choice.
The answer to this poll is Schultz and I am surprised that it isn't more of a landslide.
Young, high potential defenseman to pair with our group of forwards? No brainer.
The trouble is that he is governed not by traditional UFA rules, but rather subject to an ELC, which caps what we and everyone else can offer. Basically, it's not about who offers him the best contract, but rather the team that offers him the best opportunity and/or the team/city/system he is most comfortable playing in. We would probably need to assure him a top 4 spot to be competitive in the bidding, but we have a lot going for us to draw him in.
Other than Schultz, there are a few decent names out there, but none that are worth getting stuck in a longterm deal with.
7.5 requires compensation of 1 1st rounders, a 2nd & a 3rd. They have to be the teams own picks.
TB owns our 2nd in either from the trade for Mez. We'd need to get that back.
Like I said in another thread. If the cap goes up to 69 million like Homer thinks it will. Getting Suter isn't out of the question because to come to the Philly team that is always a contender would be a place a player would want to sign long term because that player knows this team will contend every year. A long term deal on this team should be a dream contract. Outside of Suter, I would sign Carle if he signs a hometown discount for around 4.2 a season, sign Gill and trade Mez.
