Morgan Rielly vs. Cam Fowler

Rielly's really been impressive in the playoffs, but Fowler's already an NHL regular.

Which player do you see as having a better career offensively? Whose the better 2-way player? Which one will have a better career overall?

Still too early to make a judgement.

Due to bias I'll say Fowler.

Then when I try to be fair to both players I still say Fowler but not by as much. I actually think they're very much alike as players I just saw more upside pre-draft in Fowler.

Seriously, I was so high on him that in 2010 I considered him as unreachable as Seguin and Hall at 12. Like...I was so blown away by him that I never jumped on the hype train because I never thought he'd be there. My favorites were Etem, Niederreiter, Forbort, and Skinner.

Similar players.

Fowler is bigger and as a draft eligible had a better defensive game.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rielly is better offensively though.

Unfair comparison, due to their ages, and one is a pro, they other may never play in the NHL.

Rielly is more dynamic. I think he will be the better player. and had he played all year I think he would have been a unanimous top 5 pick.

Fowler is more of a puck mover while Rielly I would call more of a puck rusher.

Rielly seems a little more dynamic but doesn't quite have the passing skills of Fowler. While they are both excellent skaters, laterally and backwards there are few defenseman in the NHL that can skate like Fowler can.

I'm not sure I'd say Fowler is a better skater than Fowler but to each his own.

Fowler's pretty underrated as one of the fastest skaters in the league. He just doesn't use it very often unfortunately.

But just as a comparison his fastest skater time I think was a 13.95 at the Ducks skills competition. Had that been at the ASG (2010), it would've been the fastest time since Scott Niedermayer's 13.783 in 2004.

Rielly is fast, but there aren't many guys in the league faster than Fowler (maybe Hagelin and Grabner)

Chris Kreirder says put me on that list.

Also iirc Kris Letang did fairly well at the all star comp.

Morgan Rielly was compared to Duncan Keith by somewhere.. so.. I'll go with Rielly.

Fowler for me, and that's coming from a huge Rielly fan. With that being said, it's not an equal comparison.

I'm going to be the first one to say Rielly because I feel as though Fowler doesn't have that high of a "Hockey IQ" he handles the puck well but I don't see an improvement in Fowler at all honestly. I expected a lot from him and hope to see more in Rielly.

1. Don't follow what people say, have your own opinion. If I said Morgan Rielly was like Komisarek, would you believe me?
2. Rielly is more comparable to Visnovsky/Karlsson to me then Keith. I think He'll be a worthy contender one day in the NHL LIKE Keith is now, but I see Rielly being more O than a two way.
3. Where did you see that? I'd like to read it.

Hahaha what? I guess the Ducks are a bunch of retards then because he's got probably the highest hockey IQ on this team. And it sounds to me like you're expecting way too much. 40 points for a defenseman right out of the draft. 27 points after a pretty bad sophomore slump and a season where his team's top scorer only had like 60 some points. Fowler's confidence was down because Boudreau was restricting his play. When he's confident, he can be the most dominant guy on the ice. Can I ask how many times you've actually watched Fowler play?

Fowler was compared to Niedermayer pre-draft...so......

Also, I know where you saw the Keith comparison. Whoever was coming up with those is an idiot. Here's the rest of the comparisons.

Yakupov-Ovechkin
Grigorenko-Malkin
Murray-Niedermayer
Dumba-Schenn
Forsberg-Paajarvi
Subban-Price
Trouba-Jack Johnson (maybe Erik...but not Jack)
Reinhart-Pronger

Just food for thought.

Not really the point of my post but okay.

Wait what? Rielly-Ryan Suter? Not even. Like...couldn't be more wrong there.

Haven't really seen Rielly play. Just going based off his elite skating.

Erik Karlsson might have been a better comparison.

Yeah but Suter is a defensive specialist who also has offensive talent. The only top dman to fit that mold in this draft is Trouba. MAYBE Reinhart, but he's not the best skater. Rielly like you said fits more of a Mike Green, Erik Karlsson, Lubomir Visnovsky type of mold.

I would compare the way Reilly plays to Bobby Orr, it seems to me the player he models his game after.
