Gomez for Benn. Let's go Bergevin. Do it! Easiest trade you'll have. Can't wait for Gauthier to be hired by somebody.

Do you think he'd be stupid enough to trade for Gomez twice??? And for half of the Stars best assets?

darn, too bad he didn't end up with an eastern conference team, or better yet, division rival.

what are the odds that he pulls a Tallon and convinces JoeN to trade for Gomez?

Gomez for Adam Pardy... get it done Bergie!

Good for Gainey. He was fine with us but screwed up in his 'reconstruction' of the team. Good luck Gainey. Much respect for the man, player and 80% of his era as a GM.

You know I have always wondered this and in the wake of the gainey news and dudley news I have a question.

Why are teams allowed to sign staff members of other teams while still under contract? I mean the Leafs or habs or Rangers can't simply offer Ovechkin or Crosby a contract so why can they do it with management teams?

never made sense to me

He's a good man, I guess his mind's back into hockey again.

Still, wish he stayed in Montreal as an ambassador or something. His legendary player status shouldn't be tarnished by his topsy-turvy GM career here.

They owe us for Ribeiro/Niinniimmaa ... I never know which letter the silly Finns double, so I don't take chances and I double them all.

Didn't see any disrespect for the man and the player. Besides, he's been hired by another team. It's not like something bad happen to him.

Happy he's gone, simply for the fact that the franchise needs to move forward with fresh faces and new blood. That being said, he did inherit a team in the bottom of the NHL and took them to a bubble team/one year as a legit contender (2008). He should have been replaced before the big UFA 'rebuild', in order to take the step from bubble team to consistent contender. Best of Luck Mr.Gainey, never lost respect for you as a person or a professional, despite the shortcomings.

Okay, let's be respectful. Good for him, hey maybe he'll rejuvinate over there. Great to see him having a job.

What could be Gainey,s first advice to Joe? Move Ribeiro?

Bob Gainey was a hero to many of us old enough to have seen him play in his prime. I have nothing but respect for the man and wish him good luck.

Not surprised. I wouldnt be surprised if Gauthier gets a position eventually as well. In 10 seasons( or was it 9) the habs missed the playoffs twice, despite not inherting the best team in the best shape.

All player contracts are controlled by a collective bargaining agreement. Coaches and management negotiate their contracts individually, so unless the contract has a non-compete clause they are generally free to move to other organizations for promotions.

i'd say you can probably count on it... though it has little to do with the playoff appearances... we just hired Dudley who in his 9 years of front office work only once made the playoffs.

He was my hero as a kid, I wore 23 in minor hockey because of him....and I was a goalie.

But maybe he decides to "advise" Joe to move a problem child in their system, Scott Glennie? To us for Kaberle?

Good for Gainey. A good addition for Dallas. We quickly forget that Gianey brought more success to this team than any other GM in the past 19 years.

PS...u guys are all "yellow". haha another one of his finer moments.
